Long term disability (LTD) insurance is a type of coverage that provides income replacement if you are unable to work for an extended period due to illness or injury. LTD policies typically begin paying benefits after a waiting period, often 90 to 180 days, and can continue for several years or until you reach retirement age, depending on the terms of the policy. The amount you receive is usually a percentage of your regular salary, helping you maintain financial stability while you recover. LTD insurance is offered through employers or can be purchased individually, and coverage details vary by policy.
