Disability specialists help people with disabilities understand what benefits they are eligible for and guide them through the completion of the paperwork required to receive those benefits. They work in a variety of industries, including health care, education, and business. Disability specialists may also determine any additional accommodations that need to be made for a disabled employee, such as wheelchair accessibility or training fellow employees on how to be mindful of the needs of their disabled co-workers. They track their client’s progress and may set up follow-up appointments for medical or psychological evaluations to ensure their client is receiving all the services they need. Other specific job duties depend on where the disability specialist works.
