Line Maintenance Technician

Queens, New York (JFK Airport) - Fully Onsite

Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Line Maintenance Technician, who will be responsible for performing line maintenance, installation, repair station, and ground equipment maintenance work on Thales In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) systems in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, airline customer maintenance manuals, and internal operating procedures.
In this position, you will ensure all maintenance activities are executed with a strong focus on safety, compliance, reliability, and operational efficiency while supporting airline customers in a fast-paced, deadline-driven airport environment, requiring a detail-oriented and technically skilled professional who can troubleshoot, install, and repair complex electronic systems and who demonstrates a strong understanding of regulatory requirements, adherence to procedures, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service and customer satisfaction.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and system modifications on all Thales In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently to ensure minimal aircraft downtime and operational impact.
  • Ensure all airline logbook discrepancies related to Thales systems are accurately documented and cleared in a timely manner.
  • Document all maintenance activities daily using established procedures and submit detailed reports to the Supervisor of Maintenance.
  • Support airline customers by ensuring adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements during all maintenance activities.
  • Maintain compliance with FAA regulations, safety standards, and internal quality procedures while working in a fast-paced airport environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required, along with a valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate and the ability to meet recent experience requirements in accordance with 14 CFR 65.83.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airport security requirements, including a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge, Customs Clearance (as required), successful completion of a 7-year background check with fingerprinting, and a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment, possess and maintain a valid Driver License that meets company insurance standards, and be able to operate ground support equipment such as tugs, trucks, lift trucks, and boom lifts after training.
  • Strong avionics and electronics knowledge, including the ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical instructions, as well as perform proper crimping and soldering methods in accordance with aviation industry standards.
  • Ability to analyze data, troubleshoot issues of moderate scope, and effectively communicate technical information to Supervisors and Customers while working under pressure in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and reliability, including regular attendance and punctuality, fluency in speaking, reading, and writing English, a positive attitude, and alignment with Thales values of Compliance, Respect, Innovation, Responsibility, and Teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of aircraft maintenance technician school and/or equivalent technical training.
  • Two (2) years of line maintenance experience, preferably in a commercial aviation environment.
  • Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license is preferred.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including crawling, bending, kneeling, climbing, and stooping in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and handle equipment up to 50-80 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently, while safely using a variety of hand tools and testing equipment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and directions while maintaining situational awareness around moving vehicles and aircraft in an active airport environment.

Special Position Requirements

  • Flexible work schedule required, including days, evenings, midnights, weekends, and holidays, based on seniority and operational needs.
  • Work is performed in outdoor aircraft ramp environments and/or hangars, with exposure to varying weather conditions and high noise levels.
  • Position may require up to 10% domestic and/or international travel.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain airport security credentials, including completion of a 10-year background check.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain customer-specific security credentials as required for site access.
  • Ability to work effectively in active airport environments while adhering to all safety and security protocols.
