Library Technical Assistant

If you're organized, customer-focused, and love working in a collaborative environment, this role might be perfect for you.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements

The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:

  • An associate's degree or any combination of education, experience, or training relevant to the position, which provides the necessary skills, abilities, and knowledge;
  • Proven basic knowledge of library operations;
  • Exceptional customer service, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to maintain strict accuracy and be detail oriented;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and be self-motivated;
  • Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer applications;
  • Ability to work as a functioning member of a team is also an essential requirement for this position;
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations is essential.

  • Utilizing the library management system for associated library functions;
  • Communicating effectively with patrons (in-person, telephone, online);
  • Maintaining an organized and fully stocked public services desk and area;
  • Assisting with stacks maintenance;
  • Preparing materials for shelving;
  • Placing holds on materials;
  • Assisting patrons with basic library, computer, and equipment requests;
  • Assisting with the library inventory;
  • Returning leased books;
  • Maintaining an organized and stocked public area;
  • Making minor book repairs;
  • Maintaining neat and current giveaway tables;
  • Maintaining a high level of library/computer skills through in-service training;
  • Logging use statistics;
  • Working in a team manner with the library staff;
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • This position requires working at least one night per week and on weekends, as scheduled.
Physical Requirements

This position requires excellent hearing and speaking skills, vision sufficient to see and interpret all job related materials, an ability to sit and stand for long periods of time, ability to climb steps and low ladders, ability to be mobile between work stations and library areas, ability to walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of thirty (30) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
