Job description

Summary

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, ensures the library is a welcoming and safe environment that supports and represents all community members. This role is responsible for all aspects of library service with duties including circulation, patron assistance, programming, and public relations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares and presents programs for children, teens, and families
  • Collaborates with Youth Services and Outreach teams to present programs and events for all ages both in-library and in the community
  • Assists with daily Youth Services Division operations
  • Provides library outreach at community events
  • Assists with the daily operations of assigned area
  • Provides exceptional service without exception
  • Works collaboratively on programming and strategic initiatives
  • Provides reference and readers advisory guidance through reference interviews and literature searches
  • Maintains an awareness of literature services, reference sources, professional trends, methods, and ethics. Implements knowledge of current trends in library services and programs
  • Provides patrons with technology assistance, computer training, and assists patrons with self-service equipment, technology, and facilities
  • Assists in maintaining shelves and creating book displays bulletin boards, bibliographies, and other informational materials
  • Processes transactions involving cash through the Library’s ILS and/or cash register 
  • Calculates and maintains statistics and records for the department
  • Uses initiative and sound judgment to troubleshoot, set priorities, and make decisions
  • Serves as back-up to the Library Supervisor, when needed
  • Follows city policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program
  • Two (2) years of experience working in a library 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in library programming
  • Experience working with youth
  • Familiarity with Polaris, Library IQ, Beanstack, and/or VOMO
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
