The University of Miami's Library has an exciting opportunity for a full time Library Supervisor to work in Coral Gables, FL.

The Library Supervisor provides operational leadership within Access Services at the Richter Library, ensuring highquality patron support and smooth daily workflow. This position supervises, hires, trains, and coordinates a team of student employees and works closely with other Access Services staff to maintain an excellent user experience for patrons (including students, faculty, staff, and members of the community) and a welcoming and friendly learning environment for all. The Library Supervisor reports directly to the Access Services Manager.

The incumbent oversees all aspects of direct patron services at the Circulation service point and ensures consistent service quality, effective communication with unit managers, and adherence to University Libraries policies and service standards.

This position is currently slated to work Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, but is subject to change as noted below. This regular, full-time position may be required to work during any of the library operations hours. Current operating hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m., Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday, 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, Sunday, 10:00 am to 2:00 am; and 24/7 during End of Semester Exam periods. During shortened and summer hours, the schedule varies. Please note that the library operating schedule is subject to change, as needed and determined by Library Administration.

Department Specific Functions:

Responsible for general supervision of Circulation & Reserves staff and public services activities on evening and weekend shift (60%).

  • Supervising, scheduling, and providing performance oversight for student employees.
  • Recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching student staff to support circulation and general service point functions.
  • Monitoring workflow and adjusting staffing levels and task assignments to ensure timely, efficient service delivery.
  • Delivering excellent customer service and assisting patrons at service points, including circulation transactions, account support, basic reference triage, and directional assistance.
  • Communicating service issues, building concerns, and operational updates with Access Services leadership.
  • Serving as a knowledgeable point of contact for the Learning Commons, assisting patrons with questions about all available services, spaces, technologies, and partner units.
  • Implementing and reinforcing established policies, procedures, and service standards.
  • Supporting special projects, gathering statistics, and documenting procedures as needed.
  • Implements, interprets, and enforces departmental, library, and university policy and library user policies and procedures as directed by supervisor and library administrators to staff and library patrons.

Communications & Relationships (30%)

  • Assist patrons with technical issues, including Wi-Fi setup, scanning, and listening room computer operation and troubleshooting.
  • Handle general computing questions.
  • Issue day passes.
  • Accept and process payment of library fines.
  • Maintain helpful and supportive customer service behavior with all library patrons.
  • Establish effective and supportive interdepartmental relationships to increase unit effectiveness and disseminate information.
  • Communicate frequently and effectively with all university staff, faculty, and administrators in a timely manner regarding procedures, policies, and other necessary information.

Other duties as assigned (10%)

  • Attend departmental meetings.
  • Participate in library committees and task forces as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum three years of work experience, including supervisory experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook (or other e-mail software) and Internet Explorer required.
  • Fluency with the Alma system and the Circulation Module.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
