Murdock Elementary School is seeking a dependable, organized, and student-focused individual to serve as an Elementary Library Aide. This position supports the daily operation of the school library while also providing engaging library, literacy, STEM, and technology-based instruction to elementary students.
The Elementary Library Aide works closely with students, teachers, and building administration to ensure library resources are accessible, organized, and effectively utilized in support of student learning. This role combines library management responsibilities with direct instruction designed to foster a love of reading, critical thinking, creativity, and technology skills.
Position Details
Position Title: Elementary Library Aide
Location: Murdock Elementary School
Hours: Up to 29 hours per week (8:30 a.m. 3:15 p.m.)
Work Schedule: School days while students are in session
Contract Length: 180 Days
Starting Wage: $16.40 per hour
Start Date: August 2026

About Murdock Elementary School

Position Summary
The Elementary Library Aide supports the daily operations of the school library while providing scheduled instruction for students in grades K 4. The Library Aide will teach each classroom twice per week one instructional period focused on reading, literacy, and library skills, and a second instructional period focused on STEM-related learning experiences.
The successful candidate will enjoy working with children, demonstrate strong organizational and technology skills, and contribute positively to the educational mission of the school. This position requires the ability to integrate technology into student learning and support the development of digital literacy, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Completed at least 48 college credit hours, or
  • Successfully passed the ParaPro Assessment

Preferred qualifications include:
  • Experience working with children, libraries, schools, or educational programs.
  • Knowledge of children's literature and elementary literacy instruction.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and basic technology troubleshooting.
  • Ability to facilitate STEM-related activities and technology-integrated learning experiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Teach library, literacy, and research skills lessons to students in grades K 4.
  • Teach STEM-focused lessons and activities to students in grades K 4.
  • Integrate technology into library and STEM instruction to support student learning.
  • Supervise students during library visits and checkout periods.
  • Assist students and staff with locating and checking out library materials.
  • Facilitate the library check-in and check-out process using district software systems.
  • Generate and distribute notices for overdue or missing materials.
  • Receive requests for library materials and communicate requests as appropriate.
  • Organize, maintain, and decorate the library/media center to create a welcoming learning environment.
  • Assist with the management and checkout of audiovisual and instructional equipment.
  • Conduct read-aloud activities and support schoolwide literacy initiatives.
  • Support students in developing responsible technology use and digital literacy skills.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist with inventory of library resources and instructional materials.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support curriculum-related library, literacy, and STEM activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.
