Job description

Position Description:
The Christopher Center is hiring a part-time Weekday Circulation Manager. The successful candidate will be one of four Circulation Managers charged with the daily operations of the Christopher Center building. This role combines administrative oversight, supervisory responsibilities, and customer service excellence to ensure the efficient operation of our circulation desk and building services. The successful candidate will exercise sound judgment in managing routine operations while effectively responding to problems, incidents, and emergencies as they arise.
In collaboration with fellow Circulation Managers, this position provides comprehensive support services at the Circulation and Media Desks-including collection management, equipment reservations, patron assistance, and shelving-while supervising circulation student assistants and contributing to special projects as assigned.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Close and secure the building on Friday evenings.
  • Co-manage the day-to-day activities of the Circulation and Media Desks.
  • Assist with operational building scheduling and equipment; ILS circulation management; and departmental documentation, communication, inventory, and business-related activities.
  • Share supervision, training, and evaluation responsibilities for departmental student assistants.
  • Collaborate with fellow Circulation Managers to solve routine service-related issues.
  • ย Escalate non-routine or recurring problems to supervisor and colleagues as appropriate.
  • Support patron access to collections and resources.
  • Resolve customer service issues in a positive, productive manner.
  • Function as a primary public contact person for all who use the Christopher Center building and resources.
  • Share management of the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) with the other Circulation Managers.
  • Engage proactively with campus support services, including Information Technology, VUPD, Human Resources, and Student Affairs.

ย Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Some college education required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience working in a library is preferred.
  • Minimum one year of management and/or supervisory experience in a public-facing setting.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with clarity, discretion, and courtesy across all organizational levels.
  • Strong time management and organizational capabilities.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to make informed, on-the-spot decisions and flexibility for working in a collegial, team-based environment.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and technology.
  • Ability to lift and shelve books.
  • Comfortable performing tasks requiring lifting, bending, and stooping.ย

Pay Rate:

  • $19.00

Hours:

Academic Year (mid-August through mid-May)
Monday-Thursday: noon- 4 p.m.
Friday: 2:15 p.m. - 6:15 p.m.
Summer (mid-May through mid-August)
Monday-Thursday: noon- 4 p.m.
Friday: 1:15 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.
Note: Hours may be adjusted during breaks and to accommodate departmental leave coverage.
