What is a library director?

Library Directors are senior administrators responsible for overseeing the operations, staff, and strategic direction of a library or library system. They manage budgets, develop policies, coordinate services, and often represent the library within the community or to governing bodies. Library Directors ensure that the library meets the needs of its users, stays current with technological advancements, and complies with relevant laws and regulations. Their leadership is crucial for the ongoing success and development of the library.

What does a library director do?

A library director oversees the daily operations of a community or public library. The duties of a library director vary, depending on the size of the library. Typical responsibilities include managing librarians and other staff members, organizing shelves, assisting patrons, and supervising library events. As a library director, you may also work closely with the library’s board of directors or other public officials to ensure the library stays on budget while meeting the needs of the community.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a library director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Library Director, you need expertise in library science, management, budgeting, and strategic planning, typically supported by a Master's in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) and relevant administrative experience. Familiarity with integrated library systems (ILS), digital cataloging tools, and data management platforms is often required. Strong leadership, communication, and community engagement skills help foster a collaborative environment and drive library initiatives. These competencies are crucial for effectively managing library operations, adapting to technological changes, and meeting the evolving needs of patrons and staff.

What are some common challenges faced by library directors when balancing traditional library services with digital transformation initiatives?

Library Directors often encounter the challenge of integrating new technologies and digital resources while maintaining high-quality traditional services like physical collections and community programs. This balancing act can involve budget constraints, staff training needs, and addressing varying patron preferences for print versus digital materials. Directors must also ensure equitable access to digital resources and manage change within their teams, fostering a culture that embraces innovation while honoring the library’s core mission. Open communication and ongoing professional development are key strategies for success in this evolving landscape.

Director of Sales & Marketing

Clients Blackbox, Inc.

Austin, TX • On-site, Remote

$150K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 18 days ago

Job description

Clients Blackbox is a specialized Meta advertising agency that works exclusively with Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs) and independent financial advisory firms. We build and manage Facebook advertising funnels that generate qualified, booked appointments for our clients. We serve one vertical and we do it at a level no generalist agency can match.
You will own both sales and marketing for the company. This is a hands on, individual contributor role where you run our sales process from first conversation to signed contract while also building and executing our internal marketing strategy.
On the sales side, you will take all introductory and discovery calls with inbound prospects, run strategy and pitch presentations, manage the full pipeline from first touch to close, handle objections, follow ups, proposals, and contract negotiations, and build and maintain a sales playbook, objection library, and follow up sequences.
On the marketing side, you will own and operate our internal Meta advertising campaigns, develop and execute our broader marketing strategy including content, brand positioning, and demand generation, elevate the company brand to attract larger and more established clients, and create or direct the creation of marketing assets such as ads, landing pages, case studies, and social content. You will think holistically about brand and understand how advertising fits within a larger growth strategy.
This role has a clear trajectory toward leading a sales and marketing function. As the company grows and you demonstrate results, there is an opportunity to build a team underneath you and evolve the role into a broader leadership position.
Compensation: $85,000 base salary plus performance based commission on closed business, paid quarterly. OTE is approximately $150,000 per year. Commission structure details will be shared with qualified candidates during the interview process.
To apply, please include a brief Loom video (3 to 5 minutes) covering: who you are and why this role interests you, a deal you personally closed that you are proud of and how you ran the process, and one observation about our current marketing after reviewing our website and social media presence. Applications without a Loom video will not be considered.
Clients Blackbox is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants and employees regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
Requirements
  1. 3+ years of B2B closing experience (not appointment setting or lead qualification only)
  2. Demonstrated track record of earning $125,000 or more in total compensation in a previous role, with a meaningful portion from commissions or performance based incentives
  3. Experience selling professional services with a sales cycle of approximately 2 to 6 weeks to SMB or mid market buyers
  4. Hands on experience running paid media campaigns (Meta preferred) or strong working knowledge of direct response and digital marketing
  5. Proficiency with CRM platforms (HubSpot preferred) including pipeline management, deal tracking, and reporting
  6. Comfortable operating as a sole contributor across both sales and marketing functions
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  8. Based in the United States and available during standard business hours
  9. Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

Benefits
  1. $85,000 base salary plus performance based commission (OTE approximately $150,000)
  1. Fully remote position
  2. Opportunity to build and lead a sales and marketing team as the company grows
  3. Work directly with the CEO and founding team
  4. Focused, single vertical niche with strong product market fit
