Reference Library Technical Assistant

Charleston Southern University


Summary

Reporting to the Head of Reference and Instruction, the Reference Library Technical Assistant is a highly visible library position, requiring front-line interaction and excellent customer service assisting patrons in the use of the library and its resources.
The regular hours for this position will be Sunday through Thursday, 3:00pm to midnight. These hours may change during the summer semester and during holiday and semester breaks.


Work Performed

Provide basic reference support, along with technology and printing assistance to patrons in-person, online, and via telephone; Shelve and retrieve periodicals and reference materials; Knowledge of library policies and procedures with willingness to enforce policies to ensure safety and satisfaction of patrons; Provide administrative support for the reference department; Assist with supervision of reference work-study student workers; Perform nightly closing procedures for the building; Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree with some library experience preferred; Associate degree with two years' experience in a library setting.
Experience: Some knowledge of common library resources and procedures; Technology skills including Microsoft Office and printer troubleshooting; Highly effective and professional communication skills; Ability to work collaboratively as well as exercising independent judgment.
