Job description

The Doctors Company is currently seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team. This is a hybrid opportunity based at any TDC or PRA office.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
  • Minimum 2 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software, Workday preferred
  • Understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to reconcile accounts and ensure accuracy in financial records.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; attention to detail is essential.

Responsibilities: 

Journal Entry Preparation

  • Prepares journal entries timely and accurately with proper support attached
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve discrepancies impacting journal entry accuracy or timing.

Fixed Asset and Lease Accounting

  • Record all new assets, disposals, etc. into fixed asset system

  • Record all fixed assets and leases related entries into general ledger system

  • Coordinate with IT and Admin Services Department to ensure accurate fixed assets and lease inventories

  • Work with IT and outside vendors to ensure proper maintenance of fixed asset and lease accounting systems

  • Ensure that backup staff maintains proficiency through occasional refresher training and updated procedure documents.

Form 1099's and Vendor Management

  •  Deliver accurate and timely issuance of Form 1099's and other related filings, in accordance with IRS regulations
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable and other departments to ensure adherence to IRS regulations regarding 1099's and backup withholdings
  • Partner with IT and outside vendor to ensure proper maintenance of 1099 system
  • Establish accurate and timely setup of vendors, as needed
  • Ensure that backup staff maintains proficiency through occasional refresher training and updated procedure documents

Unclaimed Property

  • Maintain schedule of all unclaimed property filing deadlines
  • Monthly, send listing of uncashed checks over 180 days old to employees responsible for researching the checks and communicating with the vendors
  • Send due diligence letters as needed and respond to all replies timely
  • File all unclaimed property reports accurately and timely
  • Ensure that backup staff maintains proficiency through occasional refresher training and updated procedure documents.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Accept delegated tasks willingly and follow through on assignments with accountability and attention to detail.
  • Support business process optimization and efficiency by identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing solutions as needed.
  • Take on various projects and assignments from management, ensuring timely completion and alignment with company goals.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on assigned projects, meeting deadlines and delivering quality results.
  • Assist with department and company-wide initiatives, including research, surveys, audits, and process improvements.
  • Stay flexible and ready to take on additional responsibilities as needed to support team and organizational objectives.

Salary Range: $50,291 - $69,654. Compensation varies based on skills, knowledge, and education. We consider factors such as specialized skills, depth of knowledge in the field, and educational background to ensure fair and competitive pay.
