Job Tittle : Sitework Designer
Location: Birmingham, Alabama (Hybrid/Flexible)
Role Overview
An experienced Sitework Designer is sought to support the design and development of electrical substation projects. This role involves preparing detailed sitework design packages, developing grading and drainage plans, creating 3D models, and supporting engineering teams through project development and execution. The position requires collaboration with engineering teams and travel to project sites.
Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed sitework design packages for utility and substation projects.
• Create and maintain Civil 3D models, design drawings, and construction documents.
• Prepare site grading plans, stormwater management designs, drainage layouts, and erosion control plans.
• Support site development activities from conceptual design through construction.
• Coordinate with civil engineers, project managers, contractors, and external vendors.
• Review vendor drawings and engineering deliverables for accuracy and constructability.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with project cost estimating.
• Conduct site visits and field investigations as required, with travel up to 25%.
• Ensure designs meet applicable local, state, and environmental regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of drafting or design experience in civil, site development, utility, or related projects is required. Candidates will be considered for a Level II or Level III position based on years of experience (5-7 years for Level II, 7+ years for Level III).
Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D is required. Demonstrated experience preparing site grading plans, stormwater and drainage designs, and earthwork and site development drawings is also necessary.
Preferred Qualifications

• A technical degree, Associate's degree, or equivalent design or drafting education.
• Experience with utility, power delivery, transmission, distribution, or substation projects.
• Familiarity with environmental and permitting requirements, including ADEM, MDEQ, Ga-EPD, and Florida DEP.
• Experience supporting large infrastructure, industrial, or energy projects.
• The ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff, and vendors.
