Learning Experience Designer
Position Title: Learning Experience Designer
Department: Learning & Development, Human Resources
Reports To: Director, Learning & Development
POSITION SUMMARY
This role sits within the HR L&D team and serves as a shared service across all three pillars (Employee Experience, Career Development, Enterprise Enablement). As a design-first learning professional, this position primarily creates high-quality, scalable learning content-eLearning modules, job aids, learning journeys, and multimedia experiences-that develop Blue Origin employees at all levels.
While design is the core of this role, the ideal candidate also brings complementary strengths in facilitation and program management, enabling them to bring their own content to life, support distributed trainers, and manage learning initiatives from concept through sustainability. The role leverages AI-enabled tools to increase content creation throughput and quality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Learning Content Design & Development (Primary Focus)
  • Design and develop learning experiences across multiple modalities (eLearning, instructor-led, blended, microlearning, job aids)
  • Create role-based learning journeys (30/60/90-day plans, career development and onboarding experiences) for all three pillars
  • Translate complex business processes, Leadership Principles, and technical content into engaging, accessible learning materials
  • Develop multimedia content including videos, interactive modules, infographics, and digital resources
  • Design end-to-end learning journeys that connect individual assets into cohesive development pathways, including personalized recommendations and just-in-time resources
  • Ensure all content aligns with Blue Origin's brand standards and Leadership Principles integration requirements
  • Design facilitation guides, templates, and delivery-ready materials that enable consistent delivery quality by others

AI-Enhanced Design
  • Leverage AI-enabled design tools and workflows to increase content creation throughput and quality
  • Utilize AI for content customization, rapid prototyping, and asset generation
  • Maintain quality standards while scaling content production through AI-assisted workflows

Quality Assurance & Standards
  • Establish and maintain content standards, templates, and design guidelines
  • Conduct content reviews in partnership with the HR IPS Team to ensure inclusion and accessibility
  • Ensure all learning content meets adult learning principles and instructional design best practices
  • Maintain content library organization and version control across all learning assets

Facilitation & Delivery (Adjacent Skill)
  • Facilitate select workshops and learning sessions, primarily to pilot, refine, and demonstrate designed content
  • Support distributed training professionals in the Blue Learning CoP by coaching on facilitation and delivery of designed materials
  • Contribute to train-the-trainer resources that build facilitation capability across the enterprise
  • Adapt design approaches based on delivery insights and facilitator feedback

Program Management (Adjacent Skill)
  • Manage learning design projects from concept through delivery and sustainability
  • Coordinate timelines, stakeholders, and deliverables across design initiatives
  • Partner with SMEs, vendors, and cross-functional teams to keep projects on track

Cross-Functional Partnerships
  • Learning Management Systems: Optimize content for LMS delivery and tracking
  • HR Operations & Technology: Integrate learning content with HR systems and workflows
  • Communications: Align learning content with organizational messaging and change management
  • Subject Matter Experts: Collaborate on content accuracy and relevance across business units
  • External Vendors: Manage relationships with content creation and multimedia production partners

Measurement & Continuous Improvement
  • Build measurement and feedback mechanisms embedded within learning experiences
  • Gather feedback and effectiveness data to inform design iteration
  • Analyze design impact and identify improvement opportunities
  • Share design best practices across the distributed training network (CoP)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Core (Design)
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Training and Development, Human Resources, Communications, Education, or related field
  • 4+ years of experience in instructional design and eLearning development
  • Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia)
  • Strong visual design skills and familiarity with graphic design software
  • Experience with multimedia content creation (video, audio, interactive elements)
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, Kirkpatrick, SAM, etc.)
  • Experience designing content for Learning Management Systems

Adjacent (Delivery & Program Management)
  • Comfort facilitating workshops and learning sessions
  • Familiarity with virtual and in-person facilitation platforms
  • Experience coordinating projects and managing timelines and stakeholders
  • Proficiency with program management tools (Smartsheet, Monday, etc.)
  • Excellent written communication, storytelling, and interpersonal skills

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
