Job description

TITLE: School Psychologist

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be certified as a School Psychologist by the State of Delaware Department of Education. 
  2. Master's Degree or other Department of Education approved equivalent per Regulation 1583.
  3. Valid Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) Certificate from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).
  4. Advanced skills and abilities in gathering and using behavioral data to monitor student progress and outcomes of psychological services.
  5. Advanced knowledge of biological, cultural, developmental, and social influences on behavior and learning.
  6. Advanced knowledge of research, design, statistics, measurement, varied data collection and analysis techniques, and program evaluation.
  7. Advanced knowledge of school and systems structure for both general and special education with evidence-based school practices that promote learning and mental health.
  8. Advanced knowledge of Federal and State regulations for Special Populations.
  9. Excellent organizational and management skills.
  10. Excellent oral and written communication, facilitation, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

REPORTS TO: Special Programs Supervisor

LOCATION: To Be Determined

JOB GOAL: The School Psychologist provides direct and indirect services for students, families, and schools while working with the entire school community to create supportive learning and social environments for all students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Demonstrates positive, collaborative problem-solving orientation with students, parents and guardians, educators, administrators, community members, and colleagues.
  2. Provides core services including prevention, consultation, intervention, assessment, and counseling which are adapted to the particular needs of each student, situation, and setting.
  3. Conducts comprehensive psychological evaluations.
  4. Completes written psychological evaluations for individual students in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
  5. Completes functional behavior assessments, develops behavior interventions plans, and collaborates with teams to gather data and monitor progress. 
  6. Makes appropriate referrals to resources to facilitate educational and behavioral interventions recommended for student success. 
  7. Receives and reviews available developmental information from school and outside resources about student(s) and recommends research-based interventions and strategies.
  8. Accurately administers, scores, and interprets psychological measures of intelligence, personality, behavior, achievement, adaptive functioning, and developmental maturity.
  9. Delivers crisis response and intervention services to students, families and staff, when needed.
  10. Maintains case records on all referred students.
  11. Conducts individual, group, or facilitative therapy for children whose diagnosed problems would benefit from behavior modification.
  12. Attends case conferences on placement of individual students.
  13. Serves as a consultant on mental health topics for instructors in the school health program.
  14. Cooperates with the personnel of community health and social welfare agencies.
  15. Attends staff, professional, and interagency meetings.
  16. Assists with in-service training of school personnel.
  17. Keeps abreast of new developments and research in the field.
  18. Other duties assigned by the Supervisor of Special Programs or Building Principal as it pertains to the position of Psychologist.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Availability for evening meetings as necessary and telephone calls related to crisis situations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Works 10 months plus additional 19 days.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
The following are conditions of employment for new employees:


  1. Satisfactory criminal background check prior to being placed on payroll.
  2. Satisfactory child protection registry check.
  3. Mandatory direct deposit of pay
  4. Documentation of Mantoux skin test results for entrance to school system.

All applicants are required to submit three (3) letters of reference, with one from an immediate supervisor that is dated within the past year. Applicants are advised that a copy of the most recent evaluation will be requested if selected for an interview. The evaluation can be loaded as part of the application in advance.
