Job description

Student Library Assistant

The Student Library Assistant assists patrons in accessing library resources, answering routine reference inquiries and conducting reference searches on behalf of patrons. This position issues and receives library materials, sorts, and shelves books, and provides general library information to users.

What You Can Expect

Answer routine telephone or in-person inquiries, referring patrons to librarians for further assistance when necessary.

Catalog and sort books and other print and non-print materials, according to procedures, and return them to shelves, files, or other designated storage areas.

Code, classify, and catalog books, publications, films, audio-visual aids, and other library materials, based on standard library classification systems.

Provide technical assistance to patrons by composing summaries of journal contents and delivering subsequently requested materials.

Search standard reference materials, including online sources and the Internet, to answer patrons' reference questions.
