WHO are we looking for?

CAPTRUST is seeking a Legal Operations Manager to support the legal department’s functions and manage key processes that are critical to the legal department including law firm billing procedures and practices, department measurement and benchmarking, and support the management of third party service providers. The ideal candidate will be familiar with strategic legal department solutions within a corporate ecosystem and be the Legal technology expert experienced with large data sets, legal document management systems (LDMS), contract lifecycle management (CLM), matter & spend management (MSM) tools, AI uses and dedicated tools for legal practices, and other emerging legal technologies.This role will play a critical part in translating business needs into operational solutions while ensuring the Legal function effectively supports firm-wide priorities.


  • Build and continuously improve the Legal department’s operating model
  • Serve as a key operational partner to Legal leadership, providing support where most needed and translating strategic priorities into actionable initiatives
  • Manage the legal department’s budget, including forecasting, accruals, and financial reporting, ensuring transparency and cost discipline in partnership with Finance
  • Optimize outside counsel and vendor strategy, including engagement models and spend management to ensure maximum value and quality
  • Lead implementation, integration, and optimization of legal technology platforms (e.g., CLM, MSM, LDMS), ensuring alignment with enterprise systems and data governance requirements
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, KPIs, and reporting frameworks that provide meaningful, executive-level insights
  • Identify and implement process improvements that streamline workflows, reduce turnaround times, and enhance the experience of internal business partners
  • Develop and maintain scalable knowledge management systems, including templates, playbooks, and standardized processes
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, IT, HR, and business stakeholders to drive initiatives and ensure alignment with enterprise priorities
  • Evaluate and implement practical applications of automation and emerging technologies, including AI, to improve efficiency and expand team capacity
  • Lead change management and training initiatives to ensure successful adoption of new tools, systems, and processes
  • Monitor industry trends, benchmarking data, and best practices to continuously enhance Legal Operations capabilities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced management degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in legal operations, business operations, or a related function within a corporate environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing departmental budgets, forecasting, and vendor spending with the ability to translate financial data into executive-level insights
  • Experience developing and implementing operational processes and systems, ideally within a legal, compliance, or regulated environment
  • Hands-on experience implementing or managing legal technology platforms (e.g., CLM, e-billing, workflow automation, document management systems)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to synthesize data from multiple sources into actionable insights
  • Proven ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and act as a trusted partner to stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex operational or technical concepts into clear business outcomes
  • Ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

  • Experience supporting or working closely with executive leadership
  • Hands-on to Generative AI tools, CLMs, and legal automation platforms
  • Advanced qualifications such as a JD, MBA, or professional certification in Legal Operations
