Job description

OVERVIEW: 

Under the supervision of the Kitchen Supervisor, the Kitchen Aide will assist in food preparation, serving and clean up for daily meals for shelter guests. This includes three meals a day as well as food storage, food inventory and meal reporting for statistics and billing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with food storage, food preparation, cooking and serving daily meals for shelter clients
  • Prepare and clean kitchen areas daily for service and inspections
  • Coordinate and supervise the kitchen volunteers
  • Coordinate and work with other kitchen staff in ordering and inventorying food supplies
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • 18 years of age (required)
  • Experience in nutritional needs of homeless populations
  • Experience with disadvantaged populations, whether through work, volunteering, or being a member of a disadvantaged population (required)
  • Trained or receiving training on informal mental health/ substance abuse evaluation
  • Have a ServSafe food handling certificate or be able to obtain within first thirty days of employment (company provided)

 SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple duties
  • Ability to prioritize work and multi-task
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
