DevOps Engineer/Systems Engineer (Mission Systems)

Location: McLean, VA
Must have an active TS/SCI FS Poly

Role Overview:

Join a specialized engineering team dedicated to designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-grade mission systems, networks, and applications. You will play a critical role in driving DevOps excellence, ensuring high availability, and automating complex cloud infrastructures.

Requirements

Mandatory Skills
  • CI/CD & Automation: Proven experience building and managing robust pipelines with Jenkins (required).
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Strong proficiency in Terraform (required) for provisioning scalable AWS environments.
  • AWS Expertise: Deep hands-on experience with core services, including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch.
  • Scripting: Advanced proficiency in Bash and Python (both required) for automation and systems integration.
  • Containerization: Experience managing containerized workloads using Docker or Podman.
  • Database Administration: Experience self-hosting, tuning, and securing PostgreSQL and MySQL, including high-availability and recovery strategies.
  • Observability: Hands-on experience with monitoring and alerting stacks, specifically Prometheus/Alertmanager and CloudWatch.
  • Systems Integration: Proven ability to deploy and integrate diverse ecosystems, including COTS/GOTS, open-source tools, and custom applications.
  • Architecture & Security: Strong grasp of networking fundamentals, IAM policy hardening, and AWS Well-Architected best practices.
  • Version Control: Expert knowledge of Git-based workflows, branching strategies, and repository management.
Preferred Skills
  • Data Operations: Experience managing Lakehouse architectures and data platform components (e.g.,Apache Spark, Tri no, Apache Ranger, Apache Iceberg, Apache Superset, data catalogs).
  • Security & Governance: Familiarity with AWS Secrets Manager/Parameter Store and modern API gateway patterns.
  • Resiliency & Planning: Knowledge of enterprise Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP).
  • Advanced Workloads: Background in supporting AI/ML model-serving infrastructure or NoSQL environments (DynamoDB, MongoDB).
  • Efficiency: Experience with AWS cost optimization and right-sizing strategies.
  • Full-Stack Monitoring: Familiarity with the ELK Stack and Grafana for advanced visualization.
  • Leadership: Experience mentoring junior team members and championing DevOps/Cloud-native best practices.
