Job Duties and Responsibilities

Staff Database Administrator sought by DISH Network, LLC in Englewood, Colorado.  


Architect, install, configure, patch, and upgrade enterprise databases including Microsoft SQL Server (2012–2022) and PostgreSQL (10.x–17.x). Manage SQL Server & PostgreSQL databases across hybrid environments, proactively monitoring for performance, security, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) using advanced solutions such as SQL Server Always On, and PostgreSQL Logical & Physical replication. Provide continuous database support for planned and urgent requests, troubleshooting complex database issues with accuracy and timeliness. Contribute to enterprise infrastructure and software projects, assessing requirements and providing support for database design, development, code migration, and deployment. Additional responsibilities include fine-tuning operating system and database parameters, designing and developing complex SQL and T-SQL scripts, and automating tasks using tools such as PowerShell, JavaScript, Ansible, and Terraform. Collaborate with development teams on data modeling and optimization, documents standards and incident resolutions, mentors junior DBAs, and leads enterprise-wide database initiatives, ensuring system reliability, scalability, and alignment with the organization’s long-term data strategy.

Requires Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a closely related field plus 7 years in job offered or closely related. Also requires 7 years of experience with/using the following (which may have been gained concurrently):

  • Manage complex SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases across on-premises and cloud environments (AWS RDS/EC2, Aurora, Azure SQL Database).
  • Install, configure, patch, and upgrade database platforms, ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Configure and manage SQL Server Always-On Availability Groups for HA/DR.
  • Implement advanced encryption, security, and compliance measures for enterprise databases.
  • Create, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize SSIS/SSRS packages.
  • Write, review, troubleshoot, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions.
  • Perform database and query optimization using advanced techniques on SQL Server and PostgreSQL (including QPM).
  • Monitor database health, performance, and availability using tools such as CloudWatch, Lambda, Dynatrace, Grafana & Prometheus.
  • Automate routine and complex database tasks using PowerShell, Python, Bash, Ansible, and Terraform.
  • Support enterprise projects, including database design, development, code migration, and deployment.
  • Perform database backups, restores, and disaster recovery testing using Dell NetWorker and Clumio.
