Job description

Job Title: Project Manager, IT 

Job Summary 

The Project Manager, IT will oversee the planning, design, and execution of IT projects, managing budgets, timelines, and teams while ensuring alignment with business objectives. This role involves coordinating with stakeholders, leading cross-functional teams, conducting business analysis, and implementing new applications or system enhancements to support organizational goals. 


 

Responsibility 

  • Assistance in establishing yearly IT budgets. 
  • Directs personnel and their activities, reviews and evaluates their work. 
  • Management of the relationship with the various stakeholders; interacts with customers, suppliers, business units, etc. 
  • Supervision of project teams including Junior, Intermediate and Senior Business Analysts and Application Administrators; which includes providing mentorship, motivation, and follow-up as necessary. 
  • Performs complex or extensive scope business analysis work including work flow analysis, business information requirements and models. 
  • Responsible for project budgets. 
  • Defines scope and objectives. 
  • Prepares functional process charts to analyze business operations. 
  • Advises on screen layouts. 
  • Plans, designs or modifies practical manual and automated business procedures. 
  • Assists with the design of business processes and documentation. 
  • Prepares detailed specifications for business applications. 
  • Skilled in business process re-design and re-engineering. 
  • Perform a lead role in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new business applications and enhancements to existing business applications. 
  • Meet with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business requirements and systems goals, and identify and resolve business systems issues. 
  • Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions. 
  • Work with QA team to coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems. 
  • Conduct research on hardware and software products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts. 
  • Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems. 
  • Completes project and system support documentation to specifications. 

Academic/Educational Requirements 

  • A university degree in the field of computer science, information science, management information systems, or business administration 
  • PMI PMP Certification is preferred 
  • At least five years of experience. 
  • Prior ERP experience is required.
  • Meet with clients and information technology experts to clarify expectations and designs. Ability to troubleshoot systems, by logically testing one component at a time when encountering problems or 'bugs' in new software applications or errors while developing 
  • Consult and synthesize information from a variety of technical documents to develop software applications. Refer to requirements specifications that define and list main points of application, detail its functional design, architecture and user interface and provide sample screen captures. 
  • Attend meetings with clients and their representatives to collect information to clarify project specifications, make recommendations and reach agreement in defining system needs. 
  • Monitor and adjust costs as needed to ensure that projects stay within budgets. 
  • Ability to work independently when designing, writing, testing or troubleshooting software applications. Coordinate and integrate work with that of others, copywriters, web designers, database administrators and systems analysts. 
  • Some knowledge of programming languages, such as Visual Studio; SQL language and databases, such as MS-SQL, DTS, Oracle, DB2; report tools, such as Crystal Enterprise; desktop and server operating systems and hardware; networking and protocols. Knowledge of business applications such as Hyperion, Cognos, IFS and other ERP systems. 
  • Participate in formal training activities such as taking courses on particular technical topics through off-site training organized by vendors or at a college or university. Attend professional conferences or seminars offered through professional associations.

  • Able to problem solve and troubleshoot in a fast paced and demanding environment. 
  • Flexible and adaptable. 
  • 25% - 60% domestic and international travel is required.
  • Travel can be up to 3-4 weeks at a time.
  • Candidates must be able to work in-office in Guelph, ON a minimum of 3 days per week and up to 5 days per week as required.
