Job Description:

Position Summary

The Director of Infrastructure & IT Operations is responsible for leading the strategy, design, delivery, and ongoing reliability of enterprise IT infrastructure that supports mission-critical utility and field-based operations. This role ensures high availability, security, scalability, and performance across networks, cloud platforms, data centers, and end-user services. Operating at the intersection of technology leadership, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance, the Director partners closely with business, operations, and technology leaders to enable safe, reliable, and resilient infrastructure services. While accountable for infrastructure outcomes, this role achieves success through influence, standards, and cross-functional collaboration rather than direct ownership of all execution layers.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute enterprise infrastructure and IT operations strategy aligned with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and reliability standards
  • Lead and develop teams spanning network engineering, systems and cloud infrastructure, IT operations, and service desk functions
  • Establish standards for availability, resilience, scalability, and performance across all infrastructure platforms
  • Oversee enterprise network architecture including LAN, WAN, firewalls, VPNs, and network segmentation
  • Ensure secure and reliable connectivity for corporate offices, field locations, substations, and operational sites
  • Manage hybrid infrastructure environments across on-premises data centers and public cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Drive cloud modernization initiatives, including infrastructure automation, provisioning, and configuration management
  • Ensure infrastructure cost optimization, performance, and scalability
  • Lead IT service management processes including incident, problem, and change management
  • Maintain high service availability and uptime targets (e.g., 99.9%+)
  • Oversee end-user computing, device management, and support services
  • Partner with cybersecurity teams to embed security controls, identity and access management, and monitoring into infrastructure design
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, audit, and industry standards
  • Implement enterprise monitoring and observability capabilities to track system performance, availability, and incident response
  • Drive continuous improvement in infrastructure reliability and operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with field operations, engineering and grid systems teams (e.g., SCADA, operational technology), application teams, and data teams
  • Support enterprise digital transformation initiatives through scalable and resilient infrastructure enablement

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure and operations
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience managing technical teams
  • Proven experience operating large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure environments
  • Experience in utility, energy, or other critical infrastructure environments is preferred
  • Strong domain expertise in network architecture, data center operations, cloud platforms, and IT operations
  • Working knowledge of IT service management frameworks (e.g., ITIL)
  • Experience with infrastructure automation, monitoring, and observability tools
  • Ability to lead through influence and collaborate effectively with executive, operational, and technical stakeholders
  • Strong operational judgment, risk management, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of utility-specific systems such as SCADA, OMS, and GIS

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. Veterans are encouraged to apply.
