Job description

Title:  IT Manager
Company: Heven AeroTech
Location: Sterling, Virginia
FLSA: Exempt
Reports To: Chief of Staff

About Our Company:

At Heven AeroTech (Heven), we don't just believe in the power of people-we build our success on it. As a recognized leader in hydrogen-powered drones, we've earned recognition for creating a workplace where innovation thrives, collaboration is second nature, and every employee feels valued. Our culture is anchored in trust and a shared commitment to excellence.

We believe great teams are built on individuals who are humble, hungry, and smart-those who put team success first, take initiative to continuously improve, and demonstrate strong interpersonal awareness. At Heven, your voice matters, your ideas are heard, and your contributions make a tangible impact as you grow through hands-on experience and collaboration across the team.

Role Summary:
The IT Manager owns and operates HEVEN AeroTech's information technology environment for our U.S. operations. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for day-to-day infrastructure, end-user support, and the security and compliance posture expected of a defense contractor - including HEVEN's path to CMMC Level 2. The IT Manager serves as the internal owner of our Microsoft 365 environment, identity and access management, endpoint fleet, and IT vendor relationships.

This is a co-managed environment. The IT Manager works closely with HEVEN's external managed service provider (MSP) and managed security service provider (MSSP), acting as the internal owner who directs those partners, holds them accountable to agreed service levels, and keeps HEVEN's requirements - especially security and compliance - front and center. As HEVEN scales, the IT Manager will establish the policies, processes, and systems that keep the U.S. business secure, connected, and compliant, and help define how the internal IT function grows over time.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain Microsoft 365 (including GCC High), Entra ID, Intune, and endpoint management across the U.S. environment.
  • Manage cross-tenant configuration and directory visibility between HEVEN's two domains (cross-tenant synchronization / multi-tenant organization).
  • Own the full device lifecycle: procurement, imaging, deployment, security, and asset tracking for the Windows/Surface fleet.
  • Provide responsive end-user support and operate a reliable help desk for U.S. staff.
  • Drive CMMC Level 2 readiness and support the C3PAO assessment.
  • Implement and maintain security controls aligned to NIST SP 800-171.
  • Own identity and access management, including MFA, conditional access, and least privilege practices.
  • Partner with Legal/Compliance on ITAR and export-controlled data handling, segregation, and enclave integrity.
  • Serve as the primary internal point of contact for HEVEN's MSP and MSSP - directing their work, managing service levels and escalations, and ensuring security operations meet HEVEN's requirements.
  • Manage additional IT vendor relationships, including compliance enclave build partners.
  • Establish and maintain IT policies, runbooks, documentation, and onboarding/offboarding workflows.
  • Help define, scale, and eventually lead the IT team structure as the company grows.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

  • Professional working proficiency in English (spoken and written) is required to perform the responsibilities of this role.
  • 5+ years in IT administration/engineering, including 2+ years in a lead or management capacity.
  • Deep Microsoft 365 / Entra ID / Intune administration experience.
  • Working knowledge of NIST 800-171 and/or CMMC in a defense or regulated environment.
  • Strong grounding in identity/access management and endpoint security.
  • S. person status as defined under 22 CFR 120.15 (required for ITAR / export-controlled work).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

 Preferred:

  • GCC High / GovCloud hands-on experience.
  • Direct CMMC assessment preparation or audit experience.
  • Relevant certifications (Microsoft, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or similar).
  • Startup, high-growth, or aerospace & defense industry background.
  • Experience supporting a multi-site or fast-scaling U.S. operation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of working at a computer and performing repetitive keyboard/mouse tasks.
  • Occasional lifting and moving of IT equipment up to 50 lbs (workstations, servers, networking hardware).
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crawl, and reach to install, service, and cable hardware.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient for hardware assembly, repair, and configuration.
  • Ability to work in office, lab, and light manufacturing environments.
  • Occasional travel between U.S. company sites as needed.

Benefits Overview:

Heven AeroTech offers a competitive benefits package designed to support the health, financial security, and overall well-being of our employees and their families. Benefits in protectional, dental, and vision coverage, retirement plans, paid time off/sick, and additional protections such as critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident coverage, and short- and long-term disability.

Equal Employment Opportunity Statement:
Heven AeroTech is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic under applicable law.
