UPMC Falk Pharmacy is looking for a full time Pharmacy Technician Apprentice to join their dedicated team!

The Pharmacy Tech Apprentice supports pharmaceutical care to patients within the UPMC Health System by assisting with the organization of pharmacy environment, inventory, dispensing of medications, and distribution of medications while under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The Pharmacy Tech Apprentice services are provided in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations

This role will work rotating daylight shifts.

Responsibilities:

Organization: Clean and maintain the pharmacy environment including workspace, tools, equipment, and computers.
Inventory: Assist with maintaining sufficient and accurate inventory levels by receiving incoming orders, communicating low inventory, and supporting proper storage and medication and supplies according to Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
Dispensing: Assist in filling medication orders through correct labeling, counting and stocking practices.
Dispensing: Assist in the preparation of the proper oral medications for the correct patient for administration at the appropriate time. Use proper technique in the preparation of medications.
Distribution: Participate in the distribution of medication to correct patient and storage location within the healthcare environment per department policy and state and federal requirements.

Distribution: Retrieve medications that have been discontinued and return (and credit, if necessary) them to the appropriate pharmacy area
Distribution: Develop and maintain positive and productive service relationship during medication distribution process.
General: Received information via telephone, person-to-person, or written and relay to pharmacy leadership, pharmacists or pharmacy technicians as appropriate.Refer all drug information questions to pharmacists.
General: Practice appropriate hand hygiene both in the pharmacy and throughout the healthcare environment.
General: Use computer skills to process and maintain all patient information, medication records, eye wash logs, refrigerator logs, perpetual inventory logs, etc.
General: Comply with Federal and State laws such as HIPAA, regulations such as OSHA, and PBM contracting requirements such as FWA and CMS.

*Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

*Performs other duties as assigned.


 

Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

PA State Board of Pharmacy Registration required for all PA locations
