Job description

Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary: The psychologist in this position supervises doctorate and masters level psychologists on PSP. The psychologist in this position supervises up to three interns a year, and will supervise post-doctoral fellows, practicum students and psychology clerks when there are applicants. The psychologist will also provide clinical supervision to licensed psychology staff as needed. This position also includes the duties of the Internship Director by maintaining APA accreditation, making sure all public materials are updated in a timely manner, maintaining APPIC standards of recruitment, leading a monthly meeting with the internship faculty, meeting with the internship faculty as needed, and program development projects for the internship. The Director of Psychology for PSP will also work with the Clinical Director (CD) of PSP on program development projects, updating the psychology group schedule, and work with the CD to maintain TJC and CMS standards of care in the Psychology Department.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Provides Clinical Supervision to Psychology Students
  • Reviews all documentation and co-signs temporarily licensed psychologists and psychology student's documentation
  • Provides individual supervision two times a week for each psychology students
  • Provides evaluations for each student according to LSH internship program and specific evaluations of performance requested by the student's school
  • Communicates with the student's school as needed

Internship Director/APA Compliance/Program Development:
  • Works with the training faculty, Clinical Director and the Superintendent to maintain APA and APPIC compliance
  • Reviews procedures. Updates any procedures to align with APA accreditation standards
  • Collects and reviews proximal and distal data
  • Meets with the internship supervisor's monthly to make changes to the program as identified and provide feedback to supervisors as needed
  • Works with the psychology administrative assistant to coordinate student interviews, update the psychology department internship website and reviews if student files are complete

Provides Clinical Supervision to Licensed Psychology Staff:
  • Provides supervision and consults with licensed masters and doctorate level psychologists
  • Completes performance reviews of psychology staff under the direct supervision of the Director of Psychology for PSP

Provides Clinical Services, Psychotherapy/Counseling Sessions as Assigned:
  • Conducts individual and/or group therapy sessions, or psychosocial sessions, for the patients in accordance with established best practices and conducts counseling sessions for patients on an as-needed basis
  • Provides crisis intervention as needed

Performs Clinical Psychological Assessments/Evaluations and Data Interpretation and Court Reports as Assigned:
  • Completes initial psychological evaluations as necessary for patients
  • Performs testing and/or diagnostic/mental status interviews of patients for ongoing assessment
  • Gathers background information of patients to formulate assessment/evaluation
  • Submits psychology Subjective Objective Assessment Plan (SOAP) note within three (3) days after the patient's admission
  • Completes court reports as assigned, writing all reports so that they conform to the Psychology Department guidelines/hospital polices
  • Documents services provided as required by the hospital policy
  • Services as an expert witness in civil commitment cases, and forensic cases when subpoenaed/needed

Other Duties as Assigned:
  • Participates as a member on committee's and workgroups as assigned
  • Consults with treatment teams, program director and participates in CEC consults as requested
Qualifications
  • Licensing & Certification: Licensure as a Licensed Psychologist

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Licensure as a Licensed Psychologist for a minimum of two years at time of hire and eligible for licensure at the doctorate level in Kansas.
  • This position requires an approved drug test unless the incumbent is moving from one safety-sensitive position with the same agency performing substantially similar duties.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification with 60 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
  • Ability to pass a KBI background and pre-employment drug test.
