Job description

COMPANY & COMPENSATION:
• Medical Metrics Inc. (MMI) is a fast-growing, independent imaging core laboratory based in Houston, TX. MMI provides image analysis and consulting services to medical device, biologics, and pharmaceutical companies in support of their clinical trials and product R&D.

JOB SUMMARY:
Medical Metrics, Inc. (MMI) is seeking a Client & Scientific Solutions (CSS) Intern to join its Houston, TX team for a paid, three-month internship. CSS is responsible for the scientific and client-facing aspects of MMI's imaging services offerings. The intern will work alongside imaging scientists, biomedical engineers, analysts, and client services professionals in support of the clinical trials business for medical device, biologics, and pharmaceutical companies.
The internship is designed as a broad, mentored introduction to the field of imaging where it intersects with clinical research and product development. Interns receive training in how quantitative imaging data is generated and reviewed, contribute to the scientific and technical content of client proposals and study documents, and conduct scientific literature and market research that informs study design and business strategy. Assignments are shaped around each intern's technical strengths and career interests, with the goal of building practical skills that are transferrable to a roles in image analysis, scientific consulting, and client engagement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
Data & Analytics (DA) support
  • Conduct image analysis under the supervision and guidance of experienced engineers, analysts, and scientists, following the applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions
  • Learn how imaging data is evaluated for quality and protocol conformance, and contribute observations to the team review process
  • Contribute to quality assurance/control checks, data reconciliation, and preparation of analysis datasets
  • Assist the team in compiling summary statistics, tables, and figures from analysis output

Client Services (CS) support
  • Contribute to proposal development as part of the CS team, including drafting sections of scope of work narratives and assembling proposal documents for clinical trials
  • Participate in the preparation of capabilities presentations, RFI and RFP responses, and client-facing collateral
  • Conduct competitive, market, and therapeutic area research, contributing findings that inform proposal and business development activity
  • Participate in preparations for investigator and coordinator meetings, tradeshows, and workshops

Consulting support
  • Contribute to the development of imaging protocols under the direction of scientific staff
  • Compile and summarize relevant scientific literature, society guidelines, and regulatory guidance in support of the team's study design recommendations
  • Assist in the preparation of consulting deliverables such as endpoint recommendations and technical memos
  • Participate in the review of sponsor documents, including clinical protocols and statistical analysis plans, for imaging-related content, noting questions for discussion

General
  • Maintain accurate, well-organized documentation of all work performed
  • Communicate progress, questions, and obstacles promptly to the internship supervisor
  • Complete an end-of-term project summary and present it to the CSS team
  • Understand MMI's Quality Policy, support the achievement of the organization's quality objectives, and escalate issues that present organizational risk
  • Comply with company policies and procedures, as well as ISO 9001 and Current Good Clinical Practices (cGCPs) related to job tasks

Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • BS in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline; candidates in the final semester of a BS program may also be considered
  • Coursework or project experience in medical imaging, image processing, biomechanics, anatomy, or physiology preferred
  • Prior research, co-op, or laboratory experience is preferred

SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytic, quantitative, and computer skills
  • Ability to follow written procedures precisely and to document work clearly
  • Ability to rapidly acquire and apply new technical and scientific knowledge
  • Ability to compile, synthesize, and interpret relevant scientific literature
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments under defined timelines with appropriate supervision
  • Highly self-motivated, with the judgment to ask questions and seek guidance when needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

PLUSES:
  • Familiarity with diagnostic imaging and radiology (e.g., XR, CT, MRI, Ultrasound)
  • Hands-on experience with image analysis or segmentation software (e.g., ImageJ, 3D Slicer)
  • Coursework or research related to anatomy and/or imaging of spine, musculoskeletal system cardiovascular system, CNS, and/or ENT
  • Understanding of clinical trials, including the US-FDA 510(k) / PMA regulatory pathways
  • Technical writing experience
