Intern Advisor information

What is an intern advisor?

Intern Advisors are professionals who guide, support, and mentor interns within an organization or academic setting. They help interns acclimate to their roles, provide feedback on performance, and ensure that interns achieve their learning and career objectives. Intern Advisors often act as a liaison between interns and the organization, helping to resolve any issues and facilitating a positive internship experience. Their role is crucial in fostering professional development and maximizing the value of the internship for both the intern and the employer.

What does an intern advisor do?

An Intern Advisor plays a key role in guiding interns by providing mentorship, regular feedback, and assistance with professional development. They organize orientation sessions, help set goals, and ensure interns have the resources they need to succeed. Additionally, Intern Advisors often mediate between interns and other departments, facilitating communication and resolving any challenges that arise. This support helps interns maximize their learning while ensuring a productive and positive internship experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an intern advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Intern Advisor, you need a background in education, counseling, or human resources along with experience in mentoring or coaching students or early-career professionals. Familiarity with career development platforms, internship management systems, and assessment tools is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, active listening, and the ability to motivate and guide interns are crucial soft skills for this position. These competencies ensure effective support, foster intern growth, and help organizations maximize the value and success of internship programs.

Job description

Application deadline: October 14, 2026. Candidates will be interviewed in October and November.

Overview

Health Advances offers a specialized summer internship program, which is an ideal opportunity for individuals seeking to combine their business interests with a passion for healthcare. An analyst intern will spend 8 weeks gaining exposure to a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is a unique opportunity to work with case teams, contribute to the strategic process, and learn about the culture of Health Advances. Interns gain exposure to a broad range of healthcare sectors, including biotech, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, precision medicine, medical technology, digital health, healthcare IT, and healthcare investing.

Through project work, research, and mentorship, interns develop analytical, business, and communication skills while helping clients address some of the most important strategic challenges in healthcare. At Health Advances, interns are treated as valued members of their project teams. You will contribute to real client work, develop consulting skills, build meaningful relationships across the firm, and gain firsthand experience solving complex challenges across the healthcare industry.

Health Advances tailors its intern program to suit the background of the individual. Analyst interns work with the intern advisors prior to arrival to offer input on individual goals and to determine preferred subject matter. Each intern is paired with both a peer "buddy" and a dedicated mentor who provide guidance, feedback, and support throughout the program.

All interviews are case-oriented and provide the opportunity to work through actual examples of our projects. High-performing interns are strongly considered for full-time Analyst positions following graduation.

Analyst Internship Highlights

  • Work with client project teams and participate in all team meetings ranging from initial brainstorming through final presentation
  • Undergo 2 weeks of our award-winning training program, which includes extensive modules, industry overviews, and practice assignments
  • Coordinate and participate in primary research through client, customer, physician and thought-leader interviews
  • Conduct clinical, scientific, competitive, and market research to support client recommendations
  • Contribute analyses, insights, and content for client presentations and recommendations
  • Own an internal project selected by the Management Team to give you the opportunity to apply your training to a specific topic and present to the office at the conclusion of the internship
  • Learn how to balance time effectively as you participate in training modules, a client project, and an intern project
  • Attend committee meetings which relate to specified interest areas
  • Network within the firm and get to know more about Health Advances business and culture

Qualifications

An ideal intern candidate is an undergraduate junior, senior, or masters-level student pursuing a life sciences degree who has:

  • Exceptional quantitative skills
  • Strong oral and written skills
  • Strong interest in healthcare, life sciences, and business strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Availability to work June 14-August 6, 2027
  • Authorization to work in the US
  • Must live in the Bay Area during the internship
  • Interns are expected to work primarily from our Newton office to maximize learning, mentorship, and networking opportunities

What We Offer:

  • Mentorship from experienced healthcare consultants
  • Exposure to a variety of healthcare sectors and business challenges
  • Networking opportunities with consultants and firm leadership
  • Potential pathway to a full-time analyst position
