Assistant Chief Engineer - JLL

What this job involves: The Assistant Chief Engineer plays a key role in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all facility equipment and building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. This position is responsible for supervising, leading, and supporting the engineering team to ensure optimal building performance and safety. The role actively contributes to JLL's business objectives by providing best-in-class customer service, promoting a safe and professional work environment, and supporting cost-saving initiatives through in-house maintenance solutions.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Supervise and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other installed systems and components.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot building systems and equipment to resolve malfunctions.
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage and complete work orders and preventive maintenance tasks in compliance with SLAs and client-specific KPIs.
  • Lead and mentor team members, sharing expertise in HVAC, electric, plumbing, and related areas.
  • Monitor Building Automation Systems (BAS), respond to alarms, and ensure effective resolution.
  • Maintain records related to building rounds, readings, refrigerant logs, safety policies, and compliance with OSHA and JLL Team Safety Policies.
  • Conduct scheduled facility rounds, report building conditions, and enter work orders for resolution.
  • Provide excellent customer service to tenants and agencies with minimal disruption.
  • Support after-hours building activities and participate in on-call rotations as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and ensure inventory of tools, supplies, and PPE is adequate.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent and technical training or degree.
  • Universal EPA / CFC license.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of technical experience in all aspects of building engineering, including packaged HVAC, plumbing, electrical, production equipment repair, and general building repair and maintenance.
  • Valid Tennessee Driver's License.
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel), CMMS, and internet-based software.
  • Capable of effective CAPA management and strict enforcement of Health & Safety regulations.
  • Able to respond on-site for emergency service within 45 minutes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of trade school or completion of a documented apprenticeship in electrical systems, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, or other craft skills.
  • Hands-on knowledge of system design, applications, and repairs in commercial buildings.
  • Ability to serve as interim Chief Engineer during absences.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and JLL safety culture.
  • Proactive in identifying and proposing cost savings.
  • Experience in Museum environments and/or historic facilities.

Location: Onsite - Tn Tower / WRS Complex
Work Shift: Tues-Sat 7:00-4:00 with on-call rotation required
Salary/Comp: $36.00 - $40.00/hr
