Description:

SUMMARY:

Asst. Chief Engineer must be able to provide all functions of Engineer position/Maintenance Tech., troubleshoot, oversee engineering staff and complete daily routines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and ensure completion of preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms, equipment, public areas, meeting spaces, and all hotel assets.
  • Maintain and manage daily logs of PM activities, engineering tasks, and operational updates.
  • Perform and oversee troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, vehicles, and other property systems.
  • Address engineering service calls and respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and hotel staff.
  • Manage departmental scheduling, ensuring proper staffing coverage based on hotel occupancy and operational needs.
  • Oversee daily reports required for safety, compliance, and operational tracking.
  • Assist in planning, managing, and executing hotel projects, including capital expenditure (CapEx) initiatives.
  • Manage engineering inventory, supplies, and tools, including ordering and vendor coordination.
  • Place guest rooms Out of Order as needed in coordination with Housekeeping and Front Office teams.
  • Promote and lead safety initiatives, ensuring a safe working environment and enforcing safe work practices.
  • Train, guide, and support engineering staff; foster teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Assist all departments with maintenance and service needs as required.
  • Coordinate with all hotel departments to support engineering-related work and operational needs.
  • Maintain clear written and verbal communication, including logbook entries and interdepartmental coordination.
  • Coordinate with contractors and external vendors when specialized expertise is required for repairs or projects.
  • Work a flexible schedule based on hotel demand, including AM/PM shifts, weekends, holidays, and occasional overnight coverage.
  • Act as Chief Engineer in their absence and oversee engineering operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer and/or General Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4 years’ experience in the hotel maintenance field preferred.
  • Must have a proven skill set above an Engineer 1 & 2 (AM/PM).
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized and non-standardized situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals.
  • Should have good interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a desire for learning and personal growth.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must provide valid document(s) to work in the US.
  • Must meet legal age requirements for the position.
  • Must attain following certifications
    • HVAC
    • Pool Operator
    • Plumbing

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equal to a GED.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:

  • Valid California Driver License is required.
