Job Description
INSTRUCTIONAL INNOVATION COACH
Compensation
Salary Range: $57,634 to $98,618
Primary Function
The instructional innovation coach (IIC) provides job-embedded and ongoing professional learning experiences for teachers and staff through effective coaching practices which include assessing student and teacher needs, co-planning, modeling, co-teaching, assisting, observing, and providing feedback. IICs work with building principals and the coordinator of educational technology to identify the instructional needs of instructional staff and assist with their professional growth in the areas of authentic learning and performance assessments. This includes, but is not limited to, STEM integration, the effective use of technology in the classroom, the use of research-based, high yield instructional strategies, and real-world application. The IIC collaborates with teachers to evaluate student data for the purpose of improving classroom instruction and student achievement.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and eligible for a Virginia teaching license
  • Three years of exemplary teaching experience
  • Experience leading high-quality professional development.
  • Mentorship or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in technology use and developing technology-based solutions in educational settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft 365

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to implement appropriate instructional technology to support content curriculum, the YCSD Strategic Plan and the VDOE Profile of a Virginia Graduate.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain abreast of current educational research, instructional strategies, and trends in STEM integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with instructional and technical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and through digital media.
  • Demonstrated ability to stay abreast of and analyze advancements and trends in educational technology and make recommendations for changes and improvements to systems and/or programs that support instruction.
  • Considerable knowledge of internet safety and cybersecurity.
  • Considerable knowledge of effective technology use for assessments and instruction.
  • Basic knowledge of coding, robotics, and other logic-based programming.
  • Strong foundation in pedagogy and teaching methodologies.
  • Considerable knowledge of digital accessibility guidelines and compliance standards

Performance Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership for division-based and school-based technology integration and STEM initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with building administrators to determine instructional technology and STEM training needs of staff and to integrate these needs into the schools' professional development plans.
  • Works collaboratively with the department of instruction to develop and conduct appropriate professional development sessions related to the use of instructional technology and STEM resources.
  • Meets regularly with instructional staff to plan, develop, model, and co-teach lessons that include effective technology and STEM integration, authentic learning experiences, and performance assessments.
  • Engages in reflective conversation as part of the coaching process.
  • Researches, investigates, and uses instructional devices and applications to support teaching and learning.
  • Research best practices and resources in the area of technology and STEM integration and disseminates to instructional staff through regular and ongoing communication such as a newsletter, blog, webpage, podcast or other social media venue.
  • Provides assistance for instructional software and the learning management system.
  • Curates model lessons and products related to effective technology integration, STEM, authentic learning experiences, and career readiness.
  • Promotes and leads professional development opportunities related to effective technology integration, STEM, and authentic learning experiences.
  • Maintains documentation of training sessions' effectiveness.
  • Adheres to school division policies and regulations dealing with acceptable use.
  • Assists with basic diagnosis and troubleshooting for division instructional software.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Type: Exempt
Reports to: Coordinator of Educational Technology
Terms of Employment: Salary based on Licensed Pay Plan plus a per diem rate for 17 additional days beyond the ten-month licensed employee contract.
Evaluation: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of licensed personnel.
