Manages the daily operations of the assigned department or function to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives.

 How you'll contribute 

A HIM Manager who excels in this role: 

  • Works collaboratively with physicians and hospital staff to assure completion of records that meet all regulatory and facility requirements.
  • Reviews and responds to the daily fatal error reports for HIM related issues.
  • Answer inquiries from internal and external contacts regarding information recorded in patient's medical records, within all departmental policies and guidelines.
  • Responds appropriately to any potential HIM issues.
  • Reports/records HIPAA incidents in a timely manner & investigates to determine if breach of confidentiality occurred.
  • Performs timely audits on medical charts to ensure documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Prepares/audits the medical records post discharge to assure all required documentation is present.
  • Accurately records and monitors departmental deficiency rate and maintains rate below 30%.
  • Informs/educates all facility staff of HIPAA/ Part 2 policies pertaining to medical records and remain current on all laws and regulations regarding confidentiality of patient/medical information.
  • Provides leadership and management to all Medical Records staff and conducts regular departmental meetings to consistently improve service.
  • Adheres to release of patient information/medical records according to hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures dictation reports are completed and filed in the MR according to time requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with hospital departments to process all requests for medical records.
