Position Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (37.5-hour workweek)ย

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director and the IL Lead Specialist, the Community Information & Independent Living Specialist (CIC/ILS) delivers person-centered services and resource coordination to empower individuals with disabilities to live independent and inclusive lives. This dual-role position combines direct independent living support with community information, referral management, and local outreach across Merced and the broader service area.ย 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities ย 


Direct Consumer Services & Independent Living: ย 

  • Work directly with consumers to provide ย ย ย ย ย ย person-centered support aligned with the Independent Living movement, ย ย ย ย ย ย including housing, peer support, skills training, benefits planning, ย ย ย ย ย ย transition support, and self-advocacy.ย 
  • Develop comprehensive person-centered plans and ย ย ย ย ย ย independent living plans tailored to each individual's goals.ย 
  • Support the planning, delivery, and promotion of Peer ย ย ย ย ย ย Support Group activities for consumers, caregivers, and community ย ย ย ย ย ย partners.ย 
  • Complete consumer intakes, service notes, and data ย ย ย ย ย ย entries in the database in a timely and accurate manner.ย 

Community Information, Outreach & Resource ย ย ย ย ย Management: ย 

  • Develop, maintain, and navigate an accessible, ย ย ย ย ย ย ready-reference guide of current community resources across Merced, Madera, ย ย ย ย ย ย and Fresno Counties.ย 
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for inquiries, ย ย ย ย ย ย logging calls in real-time into the MiCIL/RICV database and facilitating ย ย ย ย ย ย access to language interpretation via PROPIO services when required.ย 
  • Represent RICV at local community outreach events, ย ย ย ย ย ย networking with institutional settings, service providers, and ย ย ย ย ย ย local/state agencies to build strong community partnerships.ย 
  • Organize and participate in educational activities ย ย ย ย ย ย and community organizing efforts to raise awareness of RICV services, ย ย ย ย ย ย Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) programs, ADA/Olmstead rights, and systems ย ย ย ย ย ย change advocacy goals.ย 

General & Administrative:ย 

  • Assist in developing annual program goals and prepare ย ย ย ย ย ย reports for funding sources as required.ย 
  • Successfully complete all required RICV trainings.ย 
  • Attend team meetings, foster positive professional ย ย ย ย ย ย working relationships, and perform other duties as assigned.ย 

Qualificationsย 

  • Education & Experience: One year of college ย ย ย ย ย combined with 2-3 years of experience in social services (relevant ย ย ย ย ย experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis).ย 

Knowledge & Skills:ย 

  • Strong alignment with or motivation to learn the ย ย ย ย ย ย Independent Living movement and philosophy (personal experience with a ย ย ย ย ย ย disability or prior experience working with people with disabilities ย ย ย ย ย ย preferred).ย 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, ย ย ย ย ย ย PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, ย ย ย ย ย ย Slides, Calendar, Forms).ย 
  • Excellent communication, organizational, ย ย ย ย ย ย time-management, and public speaking skills for both in-person and ย ย ย ย ย ย virtual presentations.ย 
  • Ability to work adaptively in a fast-paced ย ย ย ย ย ย environment and learn new systems quickly.ย 

Travel & Special Requirements:ย 

  • Ability to travel throughout the RICV catchment area (Fresno, Madera, Merced Counties).ย 



Requirements

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ย Two years' experience working in social services.ย 
  • ย Previous Knowledge or motivation to learn of The Independent Living movement and philosophy.
  • ย Personal experience with a disability preferred.
  • ย Previous knowledge of working with people with disabilities is a plus.
  • ย Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, time management, and people skills.
  • ย Ability to work in an ever changing, fast-paced, creative environment.
  • ย Ability to learn quickly and willingness to learn new skills.ย 
  • ย Skilled in use of Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Word, Outlook, Power Point, and Excel
  • ย Skilled in use of Google Suite of products
  • Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive,ย 
  • Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Forms
  • ย Ability to effectively present information to consumers and their family, staff, local, and state agencies, and public groups about RICV Services& Programs.
  • ย Ability to travel throughout the RICV catchment area of Fresno, Kings, Madera, Merced, and Tulare Counties, if needed.
