The Infection Prevention Coordinator (IPC) works independently and collaboratively with the Infection Prevention Manager and the Medical Director of Infectious Disease Medicine to provide support.
Acts as a resource for department, administration, medical staff, and personnel in areas related to infection prevention.
Serves as an infection control expert, collaborating with the Infection Prevention Manager and the Epidemiologist/Medical Director in accordance with standards.
Ensures that projects and activities are in accordance with the Infection Prevention Plan, applicable regulations, and hospital policy.
Participates in all aspects of the Infection Prevention Program, including surveillance, monitoring, prevention, and education.
Submits and reviews reports in a complete, timely manner.
Applies supervisory experience to recognize when to escalate problems but uses excellent judgment in daily issues.
Demonstrates initiative, judgment, and critical thinking skills, while working independently and collaboratively.
Creates a positive, collegial environment among team members and stakeholders.
Collaborates with leadership for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Infection Prevention Program.
Develops surveillance strategies for hospital-acquired and community-acquired infections and performs such surveillance.
Creates forms and record-keeping systems for surveillance activities and prepares statistical reports to analyze trends.
Utilizes computer-based programs for tracking and reporting and disseminates information as appropriate.
Responsible for the submission of surveillance reports and other pertinent data to the appropriate committees and personnel.
Investigates potential infection hazards and recommends appropriate changes, evaluating effectiveness.
Serves as a resource for infection prevention matters in partnership with the Epidemiologist/Medical Director.
Provides consultative support regarding current infection prevention practices.
Consults all departments for the safe delivery of healthcare services and expertise in planning patient care regarding infections.
Monitors regulatory agency standards and proposes program changes as necessary.
Develops and coordinates implementation of infection prevention policies and regulations.
Participates in establishing performance improvement criteria and manages monitoring tools.
Observes and implements prevention measures during outbreaks or clusters of infections.
Influences the integration of infection prevention principles for inpatient care practices.
Participates in daily inpatient rounds for surveillance activities.
Collaborates with Occupational/Employee Health for communicable disease referrals and follow-up.
Keeps current in the field of infection prevention through continuing education and involvement with professional organizations.
Interprets and disseminates information from educational activities as necessary.
Demonstrates performance by adhering to established policies and procedures.
