Job Description:
Essentia Health is seeking a medical professional to serve as Infection Prevention Specialist at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota. This employee works Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, 40 hours per week. Occasional weekends on call are required.
Education Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or another healthcare-related field.

Infection Prevention Specialist ($33.94-$50.91 based on experience):
Works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to assure the safety of patients, personnel, visitors, and the community. Responsibilities include compiling, analyzing, and disseminating infection prevention data, reviewing and recommending changes in practice when indicated, and providing education consistent with best practice standards and requirements of regulatory agencies, e.g., TJC, OSHA, and the goals and mission of Essentia.
Infection Prevention Specialist II ($37.10-$55.65 based on experience):
The Infection Prevention Specialist II works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure the safety of patients, personnel, visitors, and the community. Responsibilities include compiling, analyzing, and disseminating infection prevention data, reviewing and recommending changes in practice when indicated, and providing education consistent with best practice standard and requirements of regulatory agencies (e.g., TJC, OSHA) and the goals and mission of Essentia Health. Proficient in healthcare-associated infection surveillance, data entry, and data analysis. Implements and monitors the Infection Prevention program and practices.

Licensure/Certification Qualifications:
  • IPS: CIC certification is required within 2 years of hire.
  • IPS-II: current CIC certification.
  • IPS: 2 years clinical experience in a patient care setting (prefer inpatient/hospital setting), medical lab, public health, infection prevention, or closely related field.
  • IPS-II: 2 years of experience as an Infection Prevention Specialist or similar infection prevention role.
  • EPIC experience is preferred.
