Job Description
?
Partners with senior Employee & Labor Relations, Programs & Performance, Human Resources, and Operations leaders in contributing to the effective implementation of key preventative labor relations and associate relations programs and initiatives across the United States. The Director, Employee Relations owns national strategy, governance, prioritization, and execution oversight for these initiatives and directly manages a team of Area Employee Relations Managers performing this work. Unlike the manager role, which is accountable for day-to-day execution within assigned areas, this role is responsible for setting direction, establishing standards, coaching and developing managers, allocating resources, elevating organizational capability, and ensuring consistent execution and risk response across the United States.
• Sets national employee relations and associate relations strategy, operating priorities, and governance standards in partnership with senior Employee & Labor Relations, Programs & Performance, Human Resources, and Operations leaders.
• Directly leads, coaches, develops, and manages Area Employee Relations Managers across the United States, including goal setting, performance management, succession planning, capability building, and workload prioritization.
• Provides direction to managers on priorities, risk escalation, resource deployment, and execution expectations; managers are accountable for implementation and support within their assigned regions or client groups.
• Owns consistency of execution across regions by establishing common practices, frameworks, communications, and intervention standards for the manager team.
• Evaluates enterprise and regional employee relations trends, metrics, and organizational risk and translates findings into strategy, priorities, and guidance for managers and field leaders.
• Makes recommendations regarding DHL Supply Chain policies, procedures, and best practices and influences broader organizational direction beyond a single region or operating unit.
• Leads the design and enterprise-level integration of associate relations and employee engagement initiatives; managers support rollout and execution in the field.
• Sponsors and provides input into the design and development of internal HR policies and procedures.
• Directs and monitors Human Resources and Employee & Labor Relations audits and resulting action items to ensure legal compliance and positive associate relations outcomes across supported operations.
• Provides governance support for post-audit action plans as directed by Human Rights Compliance leadership
• Establishes business-unit-wide techniques and processes aimed at increasing involvement, enhancing communications, and improving recognition.
• Helps set strategic direction with senior management, including Operations and Human Resources, in support of employee and associate relations issues.
• Leads the development and delivery of ER training strategy, content, and capability expectations for Field HR, HR Shared Services, campus and site leadership, and the Area Employee Relations Manager team; managers may facilitate or reinforce training in their areas.
• Leads or provides oversight on projects related to business pursuits, start-ups, divestitures, closures, acquisitions, and integrations specific to employee and labor relations, as appropriate.
• May have direct responsibility for Area ER Manager responsibilities within a specified region.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in human resources, industrial relations, psychology, sociology, or related field
• 8-10 + years of progressive experience in HR, with significant emphasis on labor relations and/or associate relations, including leadership of complex, multi-site or national initiatives
• Professional certifications (PHR or SPHR), preferred
• Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing professional managers in a matrixed or geographically dispersed environment
• Experience setting direction, translating strategy into execution standards, and achieving results through manager-led teams rather than solely through individual direct support
Our Organization has a business casual environment and focuses on teamwork, associate development, training, and continuous improvement. We offer competitive wages, excellent affordable insurance benefits (including health, dental, vision and life), 401K plan, paid vacation and holidays.
Our Organization is an equal opportunity employer.
