Job description

Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Facilities Mechanical (HVAC) Design Engineer to join our team in Monrovia, California to support our Deep Space Network (DSN) program with JPL and NASA.
The Deep Space Network is NASA's international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never before seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of design, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and installation of HVAC equipment.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations, heat transfer, pressure calculations, ductwork, pipe sizing, and any other calculations required to support the mechanical design and equipment sizing/selection as related to building engineered systems and various other tasks related to the design of HVAC systems
  • Experience with Data Center Cooling
  • Provide HVAC design support for engineering studies and analysis, code review, field investigations and generation of reports as required
  • Perform a wide variety of difficult and highly complex engineering, design, analysis, or other technical tasks utilizing current technology and available standards, templates and cataloged products
  • Provide engineering support to facilities systems; driving upgrade projects from concept to completion, as required for continuous improvement of the facilities systems to ensure that support and services of the department meet the highest quality standards and performance
  • Responsible for HVAC, Open Air Closed Loop Evaporative Cooling Towers, Air Cooled Screw and Piston Chillers, Compressed Air Systems, Pumps, Air Handlers, Packaged Boiler units, Air Balancing and humidification systems
  • May troubleshoot equipment utilizing mechanical drawings and electronic schematics, Collect and provide analysis of technical data, and generate reports as required. Collaborate with other departments as necessary to meet customer requirements.
  • Develop innovative technical solutions to complex problems and make recommendations for improvement
  • Perform monthly HVAC safety inspections of assigned buildings
  • Coordinate design elements with other design disciplines
  • Generate and Perform Preventative, Predictive and RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) procedures.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and 5+ years of verifiable direct Facility HVAC design and field experience or 3 years with MS/MA.
  • Have a Professional Engineering (PE) License.
  • Knowledgeable with ASHRAE Standards and Building and Fire Codes (IBC, IMC, IFC, IPC and NFPA).
  • You are proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and working knowledge of latest Windows operating system.
  • Able to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC).

  • Project Manager Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • LEED Certification
  • Affiliation with ASHRAE
  • ALC and Carrier system and control experience is highly desirable
  • Experience interfacing successfully across various departmental levels
  • Able to multi-task, adapt to change quickly, are a analytical thinker and are detail oriented.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in Industrial HVAC Design is preferred.

Target Salary Range
$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
