Job description

Department of Administration - State of Idaho Opportunity
Looking for a solid work/life balance? Steady paycheck? Great benefits? This position checks all the boxes AND provides an opportunity to serve the great state of Idaho! The Department of Administration's General Services Bureau is seeking a HVAC Specialist for a permanent full-time position on the Facilities Services team at the Chinden Campus.
The successful candidate will analyze, repair and perform preventive maintenance on all HVAC installations, commercial grade chillers, boiler alarms, and surveillance control systems (high and low pressure) in a commercial building environment. This position is building maintenance oriented and involves lifting and carrying items, bending, stooping, shoveling, and climbing ladders. The incumbent may work in all weather conditions and move in and around confined spaces.
We serve Idaho by promoting responsible government through expert customer support.
Example of Duties:
  • Performs preventative maintenance on all HVAC equipment, including boilers, chillers, packaged AC units, air handling units, pumps, traps, compressors and controls
  • Operates boilers and chillers, air distribution and heat exchange equipment
  • Analyzes and maintains water treatment for chill water and heating systems
  • Operates, monitors and programs the computer controlled HVAC/BMS system.
  • Compiles logs and reports adjustments/changes to the HVAC system which includes reporting costs and justifying changes
  • Reviews new and retro-fit HVAC project designs and specifications. Schedules and monitors work of service contractors to insure compliance to specifications and compatibility with existing HVAC systems
  • Performs preventative maintenance on exhaust fans, water softener tanks, and pressure relief vessels
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:
  • Charging, starting, and checking for proper operation of HVAC type equipment and related devices
  • Troubleshooting and repairing digital electronic and pneumatic HVAC control systems
  • Starting, stopping, and troubleshooting chiller operations and chilled water systems
  • Modifying and/or installing natural gas and water piping
  • Operating, maintaining, diagnosing problems, and repairing industrial type HVAC systems and control devices
  • Performing basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and sheet metal work
  • Welding and repairing material and brazing pipe
  • Cutting, brazing and soldering high pressure refrigerant piping
