Job description

Lone Star Paving is a paving contractor, operating in the Central Texas region with paving crews, HMA, aggregate, trucking, milling, and quality control. Our operations complete heavy highway and civil projects throughout Texas. We pride ourselves in being a family-oriented organization with a goal of upholding the safety and health of our number one asset, our employees.

Position Overview

The HMA Plant Equipment Operator will be tasked with operating heavy, material moving equipment safely and efficiently at the plant while working closely with the Plant, Maintenance, and Management Teams to ensure consistent and high-level functionality off all aspects of HMA operations with direction provided by his/her direct manager to minimize downtime and optimize production.

The ideal candidate has experience with HMA plants and the equipment associated with their operations and a thorough understanding of all areas related to HMA work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ability to safely and productively operate heavy equipment such as a loader, backhoe, excavator, skid steer haul truck and dozer.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance.
  • Adhering to all safety procedures, ensuring proper personal protective equipment usage, and reporting any safety concerns.
  • Collaboration - Working closely with management and maintenance technicians to identify and address issues impacting production.
  • Before departing work each day, ensure that the area is neat, clean and orderly; all equipment is stored in their proper place and locked up appropriately for safety.
  • Additional responsibilities as may be assumed or assigned as needed in support of our company's effort to achieve client loyalty.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of qualified experience including heavy equipment operation and HMA industry knowledge
  • Understanding of diagnostics, maintenance, and operation of equipment
  • Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in various conditions and stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindset
  • Must be positive, friendly, and professional
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Industrial experience - Previous experience working in an industrial setting, preferably within an HMA plant.
  • Technical skills - Ability to use equipment, hand tools, and power tools effectively
  • Mechanical aptitude - Basic understanding of mechanical systems of aggregate plant equipment.
  • Safety awareness - Commitment to following all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Must demonstrate professional communication in reaching out to employees and managers for needed assistance.
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as they arise
  • Exhibit excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize various tasks and complete them in a timely manner
  • Able to perform duties independently
  • Working knowledge of aggregate plants and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is preferred
  • Familiarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations, a plus
  • On the job training will be provided as needed

Working Conditions

  • Be available for overtime, extended hours, night shifts, and weekends as required
  • Some travel may be required as our operations span throughout Texas
  • Work will be performed in both a general warehouse environment as well as a construction site environment, which could include but not be limited to inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Must be able to move over rough terrain
  • Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Proper PPE is required at all times.
  • Requires periodic participation and attendance at company events and meetings
