What are Reclamation Supervisors?

Reclamation Supervisors oversee the restoration of land that has been disturbed by industrial activities such as mining, construction, or oil and gas extraction. They are responsible for managing teams and resources to ensure that affected sites are returned to a safe, stable, and environmentally sustainable condition. Their work involves planning reclamation projects, monitoring progress, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and coordinating with government agencies and contractors. Reclamation Supervisors play a crucial role in minimizing environmental impact and facilitating the reuse of land for other purposes.

The main difference between a Reclamation Supervisor and a Reclamation Technician lies in their roles. Supervisors oversee reclamation projects, manage teams, and ensure safety and compliance, while Technicians perform hands-on technical work, executing reclamation tasks under supervision. Both roles require safety training and industry-specific certifications, but Supervisors focus on management and planning, whereas Technicians focus on technical execution.

What are some typical challenges a Reclamation Supervisor faces on a daily basis?

Reclamation Supervisors often encounter challenges such as coordinating multiple teams to meet strict environmental and safety regulations, addressing unexpected site conditions, and ensuring that reclamation plans are executed efficiently and within budget. They must also communicate frequently with regulatory bodies, landowners, and contractors to resolve issues quickly. Adaptability and strong problem-solving skills are essential, as priorities can shift rapidly based on weather, equipment availability, and compliance requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Reclamation Supervisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Reclamation Supervisor, you need expertise in environmental science, land restoration techniques, and project management, typically supported by a degree in environmental studies or related fields. Familiarity with GIS software, environmental monitoring tools, and relevant regulatory compliance systems is often required. Strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help in managing teams and liaising with stakeholders. These capabilities are crucial for ensuring successful land reclamation projects that meet environmental standards and organizational goals.

  • Maintain and repair erosion-control systems as needed.
  • Conduct field inspections to assess erosion risks and site conditions.
  • Document and map erosion features using digital tools.
  • Maintain accurate digital records of inspections and repairs.
  • Operate CDL-required vehicles approximately 25% of the time, hauling equipment and materials asย needed.

What You Need

  • Class A CDL with Air Brakes and Manual Transmission endorsement.
  • Wyoming Pesticide Applicator License (preferred) or willingness to obtain one within two weeks ofย hire (KC Harvey reimburses the licensing cost).
  • Equipment operation experience (tractors, skid steers, etc.).
  • Maintenance experience preferred but not requiredโ€”training provided.
  • Strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Ability to stay in hotel or company housing for extended periods (often weeks at a time).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background, drug and alcohol screening.
  • Clean driving record and valid driverโ€™s license

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
