Job description

Laboratory Sales Representative / Account Manager

Scientific Capital Equipment | Southeast Territory

Overview

We are a growing laboratory technology company seeking a Laboratory Sales Representative (junior level) or Account Manager (experienced level) to manage and expand a well-established Southeast U.S. territory. This role is ideal for someone with a scientific background who enjoys consultative, solution-based selling and thrives in a mix of inbound opportunities and proactive prospecting.

The territory is healthy, active, and supported by strong brand recognition, marketing demand, and partner relationships — but our top performers succeed by creating their own opportunities.

Territory

  • North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Puerto Rico
  • Preference given to candidates based in the Research Triangle area (Raleigh / Durham / Chapel Hill) due to account density
  • Travel approximately 60–65%, with reduced travel for Triangle-based candidates

Compensation

Title and compensation are based on experience

Laboratory Sales Representative (Junior):

  • On-target earnings: $80K–$91K, ramping to ~$115K
  • Ideal for candidates with ~1 year of relevant experience and strong upside

Account Manager (Experienced):

  • Base: $80,000-$91,000
  • On-target earnings up to $130K+
  • Uncapped commission

Relocation support may be available for exceptional candidates.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage and grow a multi-state territory selling scientific capital equipment and consumables
  • Develop new business through a combination of inbound leads, partner referrals, and self-generated prospecting
  • Work closely with distribution and dealer partners while maintaining direct customer relationships
  • Build strategic account plans to expand penetration within academic, industrial, and research labs
  • Conduct product demonstrations and present technical solutions to a range of scientific stakeholders
  • Maintain a strong presence with customers through regular field visits
  • Track activity, opportunities, and forecasts using CRM tools
  • Stay current on market trends, competitive offerings, and emerging technologies
  • Collaborate with applications, service, and leadership teams to support customer success

Sales Environment

  • ~65% of opportunities originate from inbound demand, referrals, and partners
  • ~35% driven by proactive outreach and territory development
  • Average deal size: ~$35K (larger capital projects can exceed $200K)
  • Sales cycles range from 1 month (transactional) to 8–12 months (capital projects)
  • Broad portfolio with ~80 SKUs
  • Annual territory quota expected around $1.8M

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or related STEM field
  • Experience selling equipment (preferred over services)
  • Exposure to analytical instrumentation is a strong plus
  • Chromatography experience will move candidates to the top of the list
  • Comfortable working with channel partners and distributors
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Willingness to travel extensively within the territory

Nice to Have

  • Spanish language skills (not required)
  • Experience with capital equipment sales cycles
  • Prior experience selling into laboratory, research, or industrial environments

Additional Notes

  • This role is open due to a planned transition and offers a rare opportunity to step into an established, well-supported territory
  • Non-compete agreements are not disqualifying, but candidates should be prepared to discuss them
  • Comprehensive benefits package offered, including strong healthcare coverage
