Job description

The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. Qualifications:
  • Certified (actively) as a licensed physician (MD/DO), registered nurse (RN), emergency medical technician (EMT), or wilderness first responder (WFR).
  • Knowledge of common childhood illnesses and diseases, prescription and non-prescription medications, especially medications related to asthma, allergies, and diabetes.
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of campers with potentially life-threatening conditions.
  • Knowledge of first-aid, CPR, AEDs, and basic medical care procedures.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to train others in basic medical care procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with school age (5-18) students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively, and compassionately, with patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive working relationships with guests and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in an environment with a high degree of variability.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology (including Microsoft and Google products) for record keeping and communication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide 24-hour on-site basic health care services to guests (ages 5-18) at the Ebersole Center.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled clinic hours and be available as needed for additional health services with a response time for medical emergencies being between 3 and 5 minutes.
  • Be able to work evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Dispense prescription and non-prescription drugs and medication as needed.
  • Evaluate and treat routine non-emergency illnesses and injuries.
  • Evaluate emergencies to determine appropriate procedure to follow and need for additional care.
  • Maintain certification as health officer as prescribed by Michigan law/guidelines.
  • Work in consultation with the Director/Site Coordinator to ensure compliance with all Michigan laws and guidelines.
  • Communicate with professional medical personnel at local emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding treatment and to arrange for reception of patient.
  • Create and maintain accurate group rosters and health records for all Ebersole groups that include any heath conditions, health history, allergies, prescriptions, restrictions and special needs and any medical treatments.
  • Maintain the clinic in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Assist in the caretaking and maintenance of Center buildings and facilities.
  • Other duties assigned by the Ebersole Center Director/Site Coordinator.

Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear;
  • Standing and walking for long periods of time;
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl;
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds;
  • Regularly required to use close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.

$30 - $30 an hour
