Job description

Restaurant Information:
Carmel transports the energy, culture, and flavor of the renowned outdoor marketplace “Shuk HaCarmel” to Melrose Avenue, in the heart of LA’s food scene. Using some of the oldest techniques in the world— a wood-burning oven, an open flame grill— chef Asaf Maoz interprets ancient Levantine cooking traditions through a modern lens. Carmel is evolving from a successful launch into a lasting presence on Melrose. We're looking for experienced Line Cooks with experience on grill and sauté stations.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Line Cook to join our team at our fine dining establishment, specializing in grill and sauté station operations. The ideal candidate should have a strong culinary background, attention to detail, strong understanding of meat temperatures and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. As a Line Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality dishes, ensuring consistency and adherence to our culinary standards.

Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and cook menu items according to recipes and standards, focusing on grill station specialties.
  2. Operate and maintain grill equipment with precision and efficiency.
  3. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the grill station, including proper storage and rotation of ingredients.
  4. Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth and efficient service.
  5. Monitor food quality and presentation, ensuring that all dishes meet our standards of excellence.
  6. Assist in inventory management, including stock rotation and ordering of supplies as needed.
  7. Adhere to all sanitation and safety procedures, including proper food handling and storage practices.
  8. Maintain a positive and professional attitude while working under pressure.
  9. Take direction from the Sous Chef and Executive Chef, executing tasks promptly and efficiently.
  10. Continuously strive to improve skills and knowledge, staying updated on culinary trends and techniques.

Qualifications:

  1. Previous experience working in a fine dining or upscale restaurant environment preferred.
  2. Proven experience working on grill stations, with a strong understanding of various cooking techniques.
  3. Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a high-volume kitchen.
  4. Strong attention to detail and a passion for producing high-quality dishes.
  5. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  6. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  7. Formal culinary training or degree from an accredited culinary school is a plus.
