Summary:

Oversees daily operations of CSV St. Vincent Foundation Gift Shop and Cancer Center Gift Shop as a fundraising enterprise to support the Foundation and as a service area for patients, visitors and associates. Responsibilities include but are not limited to sales, training, staffing, scheduling, purchasing, merchandising, developing and implementing periodic promotional events, bookkeeping, invoices and bill paying, maintaining POS system, stocking and inventory, advertising, as well as communicating regular sales and expense reports to Foundation Vice President and Foundation Board of Directors. Also responsible as operational leader for Gift Shop Volunteer service in partnership with the Volunteer Coordinator and Volunteer Service Lead.

Responsibilities:

Financial and Business Practices:

  • Collaborates with Vice President of St. Vincent Foundation to develop and implement strategy to ensure delivery of quality service at the budgeted level of resources.
  • Works to meet regular revenue and cost goals, seeking ongoing improvements and new ideas.
  • Effectively manages POS system to track sales, inventory and stock, working to minimize loss.
  • Enters all expense records and activities into financial software and pays bills and tracks expenses and reimbursements or other income using an ongoing, regular system for bookkeeping.
  • Works with bookkeeper to reconcile accounts and create monthly Balance Sheets and Profit and Loss data which are reported to St. Vincent Foundation regularly.
  • Maintains good vendor relations, paying bills on time and communicating clearly on orders and invoicing.
  • Creates folders to archive income and expense papers for ongoing paper history.
  • Tracks and analyzes income and expense trends as business health indicators and adjusts practices to correct problems and make improvements.

Buying and Presentation:

  • Regularly cleans and rearranges merchandise according to basic merchandising methods.
  • Develops and employs a buying strategy to meet the needs of and maximize the shopping interest of a buyer demographic that is largely hospital associates.
  • Conduct periodic customer surveys to seek customer input as to what they would like in the Gift Shop and adjust buying and merchandising accordingly.
  • Maintain lighting, music, fixtures, and a helpful and positive attitude to consistently present an appealing store experience to reduce stress of associates and create a place of retreat for them.

Gift Shop Customer Experience:

  • Trains staff in best practice processes, procedures and customer service behaviors to ensure a great gift shop experience.
  • Creates a motivating and encouraging environment in the Gift Shop to enhance the performance of staff, rewarding strong sales, teamwork, effort and recognition.
  • Understands customer base and works to serve their particular needs.
  • Always responds to visitors and patients with courtesy and respect, practicing AIDET and connecting with customers of all backgrounds.
  • Handles customer complaints and responds to customer feedback and management requests as appropriate.

Requirements:

Education: 

  • High School diploma or GED required, Associate’s degree in business preferred or 4 years of supervisory retail experience in lieu of Associate’s Degree

Skills:

  • Must possess strong retail and management skills
  • Effective communication with a diverse group of people
  • Excellent customer service skills that reflect AIDET and other experience best practices
  • Ability to develop and implement sales strategy to maximize profit and ensure customer satisfaction
  • Oversee FT and PT staff motivation, scheduling and communication
  • Strong organization and social skills
  • A solid understanding of basic principles of selling, merchandising, record keeping and inventory lifecycle and control
  • Knowledge of customer base
  • Ability to create and implement periodic or seasonal sales promotions to maintain interest and sales energy
  • An upbeat, positive attitude.

Experience: 

  • Minimum 3 years retail supervision including experience in the areas mentioned in the SKILLS section

Work Schedule:

8AM - 5PM Monday-Friday
