Resource Planning Project Manager
GPC Resource Planning Department
This position will be located at GPC Headquarters in Atlanta, GA
JOB SUMMARY
Georgia is experiencing significant economic growth, and as a member of Southern Company Services (SCS) System Planning, the Georgia Power (GPC) Resource Planning team is ready to rise to the challenge. GPC Resource Planning serves at the center of many of the Company's most significant strategic initiatives, bringing together technical, financial, regulatory, and operational perspectives to guide decisions on the resources, infrastructure, and programs that will power Georgia's future.
This role will provide a front-row seat to the planning, evaluation, and implementation of the generation and transmission investments needed to support that growth while maintaining reliable and affordable service for customers. The successful candidate will partner with subject matter experts, company leadership, and stakeholders across Georgia Power and Southern Company to help shape decisions that influence the Company's generation fleet, transmission expansion, customer programs, and long-term energy future. The position offers significant opportunities to develop strategic business knowledge, broaden enterprise relationships, strengthen leadership skills, and gain exposure to regulatory, operational, and executive decision-making processes.
The department's engagement occurs through:
- Leading the development of the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) - the company's blueprint for meeting customers' energy needs for the next 20 years.
- Leading the regulatory process for IRP filings, including preparing witnesses for hearings and ensuring timely consideration of information requests from the Public Service Commission.
- Supporting the Request for Proposals (RFP) process to add/extend/upgrade generation resources, like solar, hydro, battery energy storage, and new natural gas generation as well as leading the regulatory process for certification of such resources.
- Coordinating with Alabama Power and Mississippi Power and supporting system initiatives through System Planning.
- Coordination of the system expansion while partnering with Generation, Power Delivery, Large Load Growth and Business Development, Environmental Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Planning & Regulatory Support, Accounting, Finance and Treasury, and many others.
- Working across multiple organizations in the evaluation of proposed energy policies, incorporating Company strategic initiatives and developing innovative programs and services for customers, all while ensuring reliable service.
The Georgia Power Resource Planning Project Manager serves as the Georgia Power lead for assigned initiatives, providing overall project leadership, stakeholder alignment, issue resolution, executive communication, and strategic coordination across multiple organizations. Responsible for ensuring successful execution of complex projects from concept through regulatory approval and implementation.
- Development and implementation of the Company's Integrated Resource Plan.
- Leads Georgia Power coordination and strategic alignment for generation capacity planning initiatives, including reserve margin studies, capacity needs assessments, load flexibility requirements, unit retirement evaluations, and generation fleet transition planning.
- Procurement of long-term purchased power from independent power producers.
- Electric utility planning-related legislative and regulatory policy initiatives, planning oversight of Georgia Power's wholesale assets, and other strategic resource planning projects.
- Opportunity to assign and delegate work to team analysts.
- Leads the planning, coordination, and execution of assigned regulatory filings, data request responses, and other project deliverables, including coordination of cross-functional stakeholders, development of executive presentations, research and spreadsheet-based analysis, management of project activities, and successful completion of regulatory and business obligations.
The Resource Planning team has a hybrid work schedule including plans to be in the office four days a week. We do incorporate flexibility, but also the job could require more than four days in the office in a week if necessary.
This position is located in Atlanta, Georgia. Partial relocation assistance may be available.
