Job Description

CD PROJEKT RED is looking for an ML Technical Lead to lead across multiple multidisciplinary teams working on practical ML applications for game development. The role focuses on helping teams improve Unreal Engine workflows, production pipelines, and developer productivity for CD PROJEKT RED’s development cycles. This role is ideal for a GameDev technology leader who enjoys developing people, shaping technical direction, and connecting emerging ML capabilities with real value for game creators.

The teams operate with dedicated production support and strong technical ownership. Producers are responsible for production coordination, discovery, planning, delivery tracking, dependencies, and day-to-day organizational flow. Engineers and researchers are expected to own key technical decisions within their areas. This role provides technical leadership at the level of direction, standards, alignment, coaching, trade-offs, and cross-team impact - not micromanagement or day-to-day production management.

Responsibilities

Game Development Technical Leadership
Lead the technical direction for ML-driven tools and systems that support the development of CD PROJEKT RED games, with a focus on Unreal Engine workflows, production pipelines, developer productivity, and improving game subsystems.

Machine Learning Understanding & Curiosity
Work with ML engineers and researchers to uphold the team’s technical depth and quality of decision-making, while building a strong shared understanding of how machine learning and game development can meaningfully complement each other. Help the team identify where ML can create practical value for development workflows, internal tooling, and ultimately support game teams in delivering higher quality games.

People Management
Manage and develop engineers and researchers, create clarity, support growth, and help the team deliver meaningful impact.

Qualifications

Game Development Technical Leadership

  • 10 years of experience in AAA game development, game technology, technical direction, engineering leadership or senior technical production.
  • Strong practical understanding of Unreal Engine, game production workflows, tools, pipelines, performance and technical constraints of building complex games.
  • Ability to provide technical direction for ML-driven GameDev initiatives, ensuring they translate into practical improvements in how CD PROJEKT RED games are built, iterated on, and experienced by players.
  • Credibility with senior engineers and researchers; able to ask the right technical questions, challenge assumptions and guide pragmatic decisions.

Machine Learning Understanding & Curiosity

  • Basic understanding of machine learning / AI concepts, with willingness to deepen knowledge in the context of game development.
  • Ability to work with ML engineers and researchers without needing to be a deep ML expert.
  • Good judgment on when ML is the right solution versus when a problem is better solved through classical engineering, tooling, automation or process change.

People Management

  • Experience managing or leading highly technical people, including engineers, researchers, technical specialists or cross-functional technology teams.
  • Ability to support individual growth through clear expectations, feedback, coaching, prioritization and regular 1:1s.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to connect engineering, research, production, QA and game development stakeholders around shared goals.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with ML applications in game development, QA automation, agentic workflows, content validation, synthetic data or developer productivity tools.
  • Background in engine/tools teams, rendering, performance, technical art pipelines or production technology.
  • Experience leading international, distributed or cross-disciplinary teams combining engineering, research and production.
