Site Safety Manager (HVAC)
Location: Nassau County, NY (Projects throughout Long Island & NYC)
Compensation: $110,000 – $150,000

About the Opportunity
A growing HVAC and mechanical contracting company is seeking an experienced Site Safety Manager (SSM) to oversee safety operations on commercial construction projects throughout Long Island and New York City. This individual will be responsible for ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, NYC DOB requirements, company safety policies, and client-specific safety standards while promoting a culture of safety across all job sites.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, or general construction projects and possess strong communication, leadership, and field safety management skills.
Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary safety representative on commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA, NYC DOB, FDNY, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Conduct daily site safety inspections and identify potential hazards.
  • Perform job hazard analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and safety audits.
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and employee safety training sessions.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports with corrective actions.
  • Monitor subcontractor safety performance and ensure adherence to project safety standards.
  • Maintain all required safety documentation, permits, logs, and compliance records.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and clients regarding safety-related matters.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE, fall protection, scaffolding, confined space procedures, and other safety protocols.
  • Assist with emergency response planning and site evacuation procedures.
  • Support company-wide safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of construction safety experience.
  • Prior experience on HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, or commercial construction projects strongly preferred.
  • NYC Site Safety Manager Certification (SSM) required.
  • OSHA 30 Certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, NYC DOB requirements, and construction safety best practices.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with field personnel, subcontractors, project teams, and clients.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and electronic safety reporting systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CHST, CSP, ASP, or related safety certification.
  • Experience working on high-rise, commercial, healthcare, educational, or large-scale construction projects.
  • Knowledge of HVAC and mechanical construction operations.
