As of Jun 9, 2026, the average yearly pay for full time part 91 pilot in the United States is $130,916.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $100,000.00 and $155,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the typical scheduling and on-call expectations for a Full Time Part 91 Pilot?

Full Time Part 91 Pilots often experience variable schedules, as flights are typically based on the owner's or company's travel needs rather than a set airline timetable. Pilots may need to be on-call, sometimes with limited notice, and should be prepared for overnight or multi-day trips. While this can offer more flexibility than commercial airline roles, it also requires excellent time management and adaptability. Collaborating closely with flight department personnel, schedulers, and maintenance teams is common to ensure safe and efficient operations.

What are Full Time Part 91 Pilots?

Full Time Part 91 Pilots are professional pilots employed to operate aircraft under Part 91 of the Federal Aviation Regulations, which primarily governs non-commercial, private, and corporate aviation operations. These pilots are responsible for safely flying private jets or company-owned aircraft, typically for business executives, private owners, or corporate clients. Their duties include pre-flight planning, aircraft inspections, flight operations, and ensuring compliance with all aviation regulations. Unlike commercial airline pilots, Part 91 pilots often have more varied schedules and may be responsible for additional tasks such as flight scheduling and minor aircraft management.

What is the difference between Full Time Part 91 Pilot vs Part 135 Pilot?

Full Time Part 91 Pilots typically operate private or corporate flights without compensation, focusing on personal or company needs. In contrast, Part 135 Pilots work for charter or air taxi services, conducting commercial flights for passengers or cargo. Both roles require similar certifications but differ mainly in operational scope and purpose.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Part 91 Pilot, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Part 91 Pilot, you need a commercial pilot certificate (or ATP), solid aeronautical decision-making skills, and a thorough understanding of FAA regulations. Familiarity with avionics suites like Garmin or Collins, electronic flight bags (EFBs), and recurrent simulator training are typically required. Excellent communication, professionalism, and adaptability are crucial for coordinating with owners and responding to dynamic flight conditions. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and customer-focused flight operations in private or corporate aviation environments.
