Job description

Job Summary: The Clinical Epic Analyst is responsible for the design, build, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of Epic clinical applications across a multi-site healthcare network. This role serves as the liaison between clinical operations and Information Technology to ensure Epic workflows align with patient care, regulatory standards, operational efficiency, and strategic goals.

The Clinical Epic Analyst leverages clinical expertise and Epic system knowledge to enhance workflows, improve end-user satisfaction, support patient safety initiatives, and maximize the value of the electronic health record (EHR).

               

Responsibilities: 

Epic Design, Build, and Implementation

  • Develop, configure, and maintain assigned Epic clinical modules (e.g., Inpatient, Orders, Ambulatory, Willow, Radiant, OpTime, Anesthesia) based on approved requirements.
  • Partner with clinical stakeholders to analyze and validate workflows, policies, and care processes.
  • Translate clinical requirements into stable, scalable Epic build decisions aligned with system standards.
  • Maintain detailed build documentation, functional specifications, and decision logs.

Testing, Go-Live, and Operational Support

  • Create and execute unit, integrated, and user acceptance test plans.
  • Coordinate issue tracking and resolution during testing cycles.
  • Provide at-the-elbow support during go-lives, upgrades, and new functionality rollouts.
  • Serve as Tier 2/3 support for complex clinical workflow and system issues.

Epic Application Support & Optimization

  • Analyze, design, configure, test, implement, and maintain Epic clinical applications and related systems.
  • Support modules such as inpatient, ambulatory, pharmacy, radiology, laboratory, orders, clinical documentation, and ancillary workflows based on assigned specialty.
  • Identify workflow improvement opportunities and recommend system enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot application issues and coordinate timely resolution.
  • Participate in upgrades, patches, and new release implementations.

Clinical Workflow Collaboration

  • Partner with nurses, physicians, pharmacists, technologists, and operational leaders to understand business needs.
  • Translate clinical workflows into system design and technical solutions.
  • Lead workflow assessments and future-state process design sessions.
  • Ensure standardization of workflows across hospitals, ambulatory sites, and service lines when appropriate.

Training & Change Management

  • Support end-user education, tip sheets, and communication related to system changes.
  • Assist with go-live readiness, command center support, and rounding during implementations.
  • Promote user adoption and best practice utilization of Epic tools.

Data Integrity, Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate data capture and documentation workflows.
  • Support regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, CMS, HIPAA, and patient safety standards.
  • Participate in audits, issue remediation, and quality improvement initiatives.

Project & Team Participation

  • Serve as subject matter expert on cross-functional initiatives.
  • Participate in project planning, timelines, testing scripts, and validation efforts.
  • Collaborate with technical teams, interfaces, reporting, and cybersecurity teams as needed.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours support for critical issues or go-lives.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in a hospital, ambulatory, or healthcare setting, required.
  • Minimum 2 years of Epic analyst, Epic super user, informatics, or clinical systems experience, preferred.

Experience in healthcare workflow redesign and process improvement, preferred

Education:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Pharmacy, Clinical Laboratory Science, Radiologic Technology, Health Informatics, Information Systems, or related field, required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Licenses / Certifications (One of the following active, unencumbered NYS license, required):  

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Registered Pharmacist / Pharmacist License (RPh or PharmD where applicable)
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist / ARRT-certified technologist with state licensure 
  • Clinical Laboratory Technologist
  • Current Epic certification(s) in relevant module preferred.
  • Must obtain Epic certification(s) within 6 months of hire if not already certified.

Other:

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, and the capacity to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
