Overview

Great Basin Staffing is seeking two experienced Fleet Mechanics (MSHA preferred) to support a fleet of heavy trucks and equipment operating at an industrial mining facility on the California/Nevada border.

This role is responsible for maintaining and repairing a mixed fleet of heavy-duty trucks, service vehicles, and support equipment to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operations in a demanding industrial environment.

This is a long-term opportunity for mechanics who are comfortable working in industrial or mining environments and have strong experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, and heavy equipment systems.


What Youll Do (Day-to-Day)Preventive Maintenance & Inspections

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance including A/B/C services, inspections, lubrication, and safety checks on fleet vehicles and equipment.

Conduct safety inspections and ensure equipment meets operational standards.


Diagnose & Repair

Diagnose and repair issues related to:

  • Diesel and gas engines

  • Drivetrain and transmission systems

  • Cooling systems

  • Electrical systems (12V and 24V)

  • Emissions systems (DPF / DEF)

  • Air brake systems

  • Steering and suspension components

  • Hydraulic systems and pumps


Diagnostics & Troubleshooting

Use diagnostic tools and software such as:

  • JPRO

  • Cummins Insite

  • Allison DOC

  • Other OEM diagnostic platforms

Pull diagnostic codes, identify faults, and verify proper repairs.


Tires & Brake Systems

Service and repair heavy truck braking systems including:

  • Air brake components

  • Slack adjusters and S-cams

  • Brake pads, shoes, drums, and rotors

Perform tire mounting, balancing, repair, and replacement as needed.


Hydraulics & PTO Systems

Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems including:

  • Hydraulic hoses and fittings

  • PTO pumps and components

  • Cylinders and valves

  • Leak detection and repair


Road Readiness & Field Support

Address pre-trip and post-trip maintenance issues.

Assist with equipment troubleshooting and emergency repairs when necessary.

Perform test drives and verify operational readiness of repaired vehicles.


Documentation & Parts Management

Maintain accurate records of repairs and services performed.

Update work orders, maintenance logs, and CMMS systems.

Assist with parts ordering, inventory tracking, and warranty documentation.


Safety & Shop Standards

Follow all jobsite safety procedures and shop safety standards.

Maintain a clean, organized shop environment.

Follow lockout/tagout procedures, spill control protocols, and safe lifting practices.


Minimum Requirements

5+ years experience as a diesel mechanic, fleet mechanic, or heavy equipment mechanic.

Strong experience with:

  • Diesel engines

  • Air brake systems

  • Hydraulic systems

  • Electrical diagnostics

Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and service manuals.

Proficiency with diagnostic tools, multimeters, and shop equipment.

Must provide own core hand tools.

Reliable transportation and strong attendance.

Valid drivers license with insurable driving record.

Ability to lift 75 lbs and work in shop and outdoor yard conditions.


Nice to Have (Boosters)

MSHA certification or prior mining-site experience
(MSHA training or refresher course can be provided if needed)

ASE A-Series or T-Series certifications

CDL-A or CDL-B

A/C 609 certification

Experience with fleet management software or CMMS systems such as:

  • Fleetio

  • Manager+

  • Samsara

  • Geotab

Basic fabrication or welding experience (MIG / Stick)

Experience servicing forklifts, boom lifts, or mining support equipment.

Mobile service truck experience and field diagnostics.


Schedule & Conditions

Full-time schedule; typical day shift with overtime available.

Work will take place in shop and outdoor yard conditions at an active industrial site.

Exposure to heat, cold, dust, and heavy equipment operations is expected.

PPE required and provided according to site safety standards.
