Job description

Position Hours

8:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday


Minimum Job Duties

Under supervision of Commission's Asset Manager, performs a variety of work relating to GIS activities for the Commission. Responsible for assisting in the maintenance of the Commission's GIS and CMMS Systems.

  • Develop, implement and maintain the Commission's GIS and CMMS systems and related data
  • Analyzing GIS data for mapping and report preparation
  • Extract data from the GIS software and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results
  • Collect and enter information into the Commission's GIS database
  • Assist with further development and implementation of the Commission's CMMS System
  • Correspond with developers, engineers and contractors with regards to potential and ongoing projects
  • Assist the Commission's Asset Manager in developing/maintaining a map of the Commission's water distribution and sanitary sewer collections systems
  • Coordinate with the Commission's Customer Service Department for the extrapolation of customer data
  • Assist in web and mobile application development as it relates to the Commission's GIS database
  • Create, analyze, report, convert, or transfer data, using specialized applications
  • Recommend procedures, equipment, or software upgrades to increase data accessibility or ease of use.
  • Performs related tasks, as required


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required
  • Must have a valid SC Driver's License
  • Knowledge of ESRI Software and working in a geodatabase, specifically latest versions of ArcPro, ArcGIS Online, and Enterprise
  • General knowledge of techniques and practices of civil engineering work and utility construction
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, contractors and the public
  • Proficient in using Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, and Outlook
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of appropriate safety procedures and be able to respond in emergency situations
  • Professional demeanor and good communication skills with the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills (record keeping, time management, follow-up, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail, work ethics, sense of urgency, and ability to prioritize with an emphasis on quality and accuracy of work
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and deal with interruptions while meeting timely deadlines


Beneficial Skills & Experience

  • GIS Certificate
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography or related field
  • Experience in working within a Utility Geodatabase
  • Experience in working in CityWorks
  • Greater than one (1) year of experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with developing a Computerized Maintenance and Management System (CMMS)
  • Knowledge or understanding of various scripting languages (Python, R, JavaScript, C#, SQL, etc.)
