Overnight Cmms information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Overnight CMMS Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Overnight CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) Technician, you need a solid understanding of maintenance operations, data entry, and asset management, typically supported by experience in facility management or a related technical field. Familiarity with CMMS software platforms such as SAP, Maximo, or Infor EAM, and sometimes certifications in these systems, are commonly expected. Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help ensure accurate reporting and coordination during overnight shifts. These skills are crucial for maintaining equipment uptime, ensuring smooth operations, and minimizing disruptions during off-peak hours.

What is an Overnight CMMS?

An Overnight CMMS refers to a professional who manages and operates a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) during overnight shifts. Their responsibilities typically include monitoring maintenance requests, updating records, scheduling repairs, and ensuring that facility operations run smoothly outside of regular business hours. By handling maintenance issues overnight, they help minimize downtime and prepare the facility for the next day. The role often requires attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to work independently during non-standard hours.

Both roles are essential in manufacturing and industrial settings, but they differ in responsibilities and skill sets.

What are some unique challenges faced by Overnight CMMS specialists, and how can they effectively manage them?

Overnight CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) specialists often encounter challenges such as limited on-site support, troubleshooting urgent issues with reduced staff, and ensuring smooth communication across shifts. To manage these, it's important to document all actions thoroughly, utilize communication tools for handovers, and proactively address recurring maintenance problems. Building strong relationships with day-shift teams and staying organized helps ensure continuity and minimizes disruptions to operations.

Job description

Plant Maintenance & Reliability Leader (Plastics Molding)

Location: Carrollton, Texas | Company: Pretium Packaging

A day in the life

You arrive at our Carrollton plant with one goal: keep a high-speed plastics operation running flawlessly. You review overnight CMMS entries, scan KPIs, and huddle with mechanical, electrical, and automation technicians to prioritize preventive and predictive work. A robotics pneumatic fault pops up on a blow molder—your team troubleshoots, executes root cause analysis, and implements a durable corrective action. By midday, you’re aligning with Production, Quality, and Engineering to minimize changeover downtime and validating that spare parts are poised for the weekend run. Before you leave the floor, you walk a safety audit, confirm compliance actions tied to OSHA and EPA, and check progress on SQF mechanical integrity tasks and PHA follow-ups. The team finishes the shift stronger than it started.

About Pretium Packaging

Founded in 1992, Pretium Packaging is a leading supplier of injection-blow molded plastic containers, known for quality, value, and service. With 17 manufacturing facilities across North America, we deliver innovative packaging solutions for brand owners throughout the United States and Canada.

What you will lead
  • Direct, schedule, and mentor a multidisciplinary maintenance team (mechanical, electrical, automation) focused on reliability and rapid response.
  • Build and sustain preventive and predictive maintenance programs to cut unplanned downtime and extend asset life.
  • Diagnose and repair issues across injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, robotics, and ancillary systems.
  • Partner closely with Production, Quality, and Engineering to synchronize maintenance with operating plans.
  • Own spare parts control, the maintenance budget, and vendor/service provider performance.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Champion continuous improvement in equipment performance, energy efficiency, and safety culture.
  • Train, develop, and evaluate technicians to elevate capability and results.
  • Leverage a CMMS to manage work orders, capture maintenance history, and monitor KPIs.
  • Lead root cause analyses and deploy corrective actions for repeat failures.
  • Ensure all compliance with regulatory affairs, FDA, OSHA, SQF mechanical integrity, and process hazards analysis (PHA).
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and environmental stewardship.
What you bring
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field preferred.
  • 5–7+ years of maintenance experience in manufacturing, including 2+ years leading people.
  • Hands-on knowledge of injection/blow molding equipment, pneumatics, PLCs, hydraulics, and plant electrical systems.
  • Experience with CMMS and maintenance planning tools.
  • Familiarity with lean methods and CI tools (5S, Kaizen, Root Cause Analysis).
  • Proven track record managing maintenance budgets and capital improvement projects.
Core strengths
  • Leadership & team development
  • Technical problem-solving
  • Planning & prioritization
  • Clear communication with cross-functional partners and vendors
  • Analytical, cost-conscious decision making
  • Adaptability in fast-paced operations
Technical proficiency
